JMI Monthly Newsletter

December 2020

Big picture

Dear JMI Families,

Welcome to December! I hope that this newsletter finds you and your loved ones healthy and safe.

In November, we transitioned from the first to second marking period. I am beyond impressed with how our students are making the best of their ever-changing learning world. Our students are facilitating discussions about text, math, and science in breakout groups, conducting experiments at home, and mastering new concepts! Our JMI Knights are really holding true to our theme of this year and soaring to new heights.

Obviously, we are now all remote. While our daily schedule remains the same, we know that this is yet another change for our students, staff, and our JMI families. Please remind students that cameras must be on during the school day and students should be using their Edison device. If there are issues with the Chromebook, please fill out the tech ticket embedded in this newsletter. Thank all of you for your support at home. We could not do this without you!

I wish you all a very happy and healthy holiday season!

Mrs. Abatemarco

Teacher and Educational Service Provider of the Year

Congratulations to Mrs. Peters for being named JMI's Teacher of the Year.

Congratulations to Mrs. Hong for being named JMI's Educational Service Provider of the Year.

Thank you for all you both do to support our students! You make a difference every day in the lives of our students!

Scholastic Book Fair - Now through December 10

The JMI PTO is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair. Instead of students shopping through our multi-purpose room, they will be able to browse through the Virtual Book Fair set up by Scholastic. All items purchased will be shipped directly to the home address.

Students who earned a gift certificate through the Summer Reading program can apply that to their book fair purchase. The PTO sent directions out to the parents/guardians of students who won a gift card on how to set up an e-wallet in order to redeem the gift card.

Lunch Pick Up - 7 Day Bundle Option

Edison Township and Chartwells are now offering families the opportunity to pick up a week's worth of breakfast and lunch on Wednesdays. If you are interested in picking up once a week instead of daily, please complete the form linked here.

Student Council Elections

Our Student Council held Officer elections on November 19 and 20. All fifth-grade students had the opportunity to run for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, or Secretary and we had 24 brave students put together campaign posters and video speeches. During Morning Meetings, students attentively listened and watched the candidates giving their speech and then voted through Google Forms.

Congratulations to our 2020-2021 Student Council Officers:

President - Ranya

Vice President - Harish

Treasurer - Arnav

Secretary - Yukti

We are so proud of all the students who ran for Student Council Officers.

Student Council Food Drive

Thank you so much for your generous donations to our annual food drive. Even during a pandemic, the JMI community comes together to give to families in need! For numerous years, our Student Council, under the leadership of Mrs. Landrove and Mrs. Videla, has organized the food drive for Hands of Hope, a food pantry located on Woodbridge Ave in Edison. Prior to Thanksgiving, Hands of Hope came to JMI and loaded up their truck with all the donated food items.

Thank you JMI community for making our food drive a success!

American Education Week Thank You!!

To recognize the JMI teachers and staff for all they do for our students during American Education Week, the PTO generously provided snacks to help keep the staff going. The staff was extremely appreciative and enjoyed the snacks. Thank you, PTO for your support and generosity!

The treats for the staff is just one of the numerous ways the PTO supports JMI. If you haven't already joined, please consider joining the PTO at
