Primary School News

March, 2017

Do you know a 3, 4 or 5-year old? DON'T MISS THESE IMPORTANT EVENTS:

If you know someone in our school district who has a 3 or 4-year-old, please ask them if they have registered for Pre-School screening. If interested, they need to call 753-2891 ext. 1 to register. Screening dates are March 22-24.

The Primary School is currently registering students to attend "A Day in K", which will be held on April 11 & 12. After Spring Break, please call our office @881-2947 to reserve your spot!

LR Education Foundation Grants

Several of our teachers wrote grants last fall and were so excited to receive funding for their special projects through the Logan-Rogersville Education Foundation. Sharon Fick recieved a grant for $4,400 to add 10 iPads to her classroom. Now she will have an iPad for every student in her classroom. Kimberly Bergmann received a grant for $966 to help fund our LRP Motor Lab. Angie Harrell and Sara Boyts were awarded $1,050 to have 6 picnic tables built for our campus. These tables have been built by the LRHS Ag. Structures class, and are already being enjoyed by our students. Sara Boyts wrote a second grant for $650 to purchase 8 Osmo kits for her classroom.

Professional Development

Our February PD day provided a wide range of learning opportunities for all of our teachers. Primary School teachers led sessions on literacy, math and technology. We appreciate these teachers who presented: Melanie Riley, Becky Lea, Wendy Guison, Emily Jacobs, Samantha Powell, Kimberly Bergmann, Melissa Roberts and Sara Boyts.

Update on Jump Rope For Heart Fundraiser

Coach Brown encouraged participation in this event and the results were incredible! Our kindergarten and first grade students raised $4,057 for the American Heart Association. Libby Reynolds was the top student, and Mrs. Kibby's class won the first place honors. Next Friday, several students will have a chance to play "egg roulette" by smashing eggs on Coach Brown's forehead!

Book Fair & Grandparents' Day

Librarian Karen Rumker planned a fun week for our students and staff in the week leading up to the Book Fair on March 2. The theme this year was "Happy Camper", so we all enjoyed wearing our flannel shirts and "roasting" S'mores. Our art teacher, Judy Bowen, had all 17 K-1 classes create separate pieces of artwork based on a specific book, so our hallways have a gallery of beautiful book-inspired work for everyone to enjoy.

The following day, March 3, our kindergarten students hosted Grandparents' Day. After spending time in the classroom, and doing activities with their grandchildren, the grandparents went shopping at the Book Fair! At the end of our two day Book Fair we sold $9,609!
