Finley-Oates Summer Reading Program
Finley-Oates has partnered with the Bonham Public Library in an effort to increase literacy among students. We would like to motivate students to participate in the Summer Reading Program and complete their reading challenge. While it is not mandatory for our campus, research has shown children who are given books over the summer perform 35%-40% better on reading achievement tests than those without access to books. Children who don’t read during the summer can lose up to two months of learning by the time they return to school in the fall.
On May 25, 2018, all AR (Accelerated Reader) points/books will be deleted for our Kindergarten-2nd grade students' records, and students will start over for the 2018-2019 school year. Through Renaissance Learning, we have been granted a Site License Extension. This means students will be able to take AR tests at the Bonham Public Library from May 29 - August 13. The points accumulated over the summer will carry over to Finley-Oates and this is the number of AR points with which the students will start the 2018-2019 school year. This program will also be available to the incoming kindergarten students or other students new to the district, which have pre-registered at Finley-Oates.
We encourage all 2018-2019, Finley-Oates students to read at least 16 books over the summer. The Bonham Public Library is kicking off their Summer Reading Program on Saturday, June 2, from 11:00-1:00. They will have face painting, a petting zoo, a puppet theater and hot dogs. They will also have weekly performers at the Family Life Center at 10:00 am on Tuesdays in June.
BISD is gifting each student 3 books in hopes our students will have material at home to read. In the student’s book bag, which will be given out on Thursday, May 7, there will be a Summer Reading Bingo Card. Every student that returns the Summer Reading Bingo card when school starts back in August will be placed in a drawing for prizes.Scan the QR Code above to go to our website!
