What can you make with the 3D printer?
Walking into the Forester library you will know right away that Kat is a very original and creative person. In a future blog I will write a post on her decor and animals in her library as there is not enough room in this blog to post all the interesting images and stories I want to share with you.
We know that her students not only appreciate but also get inspired by all the useful ways and original ideas Kat applies to designing in 3D for the organization and management of the library. There are several more items I did not include such as pencil holders and creations designed by her students.
Kat -Thank you for sharing.
Filament stand that will hold any size of Makerbot filament.
Headphone holders for side of computers
Ear bud holders.
Non-readers transforming into readers and enjoying it!
in the Paw's Up to Reading program Linda has teamed up with the San Antonio Humane Society to spark the love of reading in students. The students come to the library to read to a self-selected stuffed animal each day and they then log that they accomplished this in the reading log. As a celebration for those students who have read consistently Linda takes them to the Humane Society where they get to read to a live animal. Roughly half of the reluctant readers (students who just plain do not read) who were selected for the program became readers. This is an incredible success rate!
In the Story Tails program Linda invited a therapy dog-Lisa into the library so that students can read to her. As you can see from the photo below the students are very engaged in reading to Lisa.
In these programs the students are not only developing a love for reading they are also serving the community while cultivating empathy and compassion and enjoying good companionship.
