Message from DPI regarding POCs
We have become aware that some therapists are initiating services without first completing a plan of care (POC), and then back-dating the POC when it is eventually written. This does not align with licensure or best practice standards which situate plan of care development before services are rendered. Regardless of what is allowable in the documentation system used in your LEA, plans of care must be completed prior to delivery of services following initial placements and annual IEP reviews. Please contact your discipline's DPI consultant if you have any questions about this information.
Regards,
Laurie Ray, MPT, PhD
