FOOD SERVICE NOTICE:
Important Free/Reduced Lunch Information: When children receive free and/or reduced lunch, the cost of the meals is submitted for reimbursement. To count as a meal that can be reimbursed with federal funds, children have to take all parts of the meal offered so the main meal plus a vegetable and a fruit. So, if lunch is pizza, they have to take the pizza as well as make at least one fruit selection and one vegetable selection for it to qualify as a reimbursable meal. If they take just one item, then the meal does not count as reimbursable and must be charged to the child’s individual account. As part of a school department policy that went into effect on December 14, 2018, all balances must be paid in a timely manner whether or not a child is full pay or free/reduced. Children that carry a balance over $20.00 will have a limited selection – grilled cheese or sun butter plus any of the fruits/vegetables.
Also, if your child(ren) carry a balance over $20.00, you have received noticed from the Food Service Co., Sodexo and the school. Letters from the school were mailed home a few weeks ago. Please make every effort to clear your balances with Sodexo as soon as possible. Sodexo will also accept weekly payments as needed. New letters were mailed home again on Thursday, 2/28/19.

Pennies for Patients Information
March 4th to March 8th we will be running 1 week of Pennies for patients. I will be sending home individual boxes for students to take home. They can count their change and bring them into their homerooms. In addition, with the online link above an online donation can be made. Any amount is helpful, and it teaches children to do good deeds for others. See below for more information.
*Thank you for your support of our Pennies for Patients Campaign last year, sponsored by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). We are running Pennies this year from March 4 - 8, 2019.
Pennies is a service-learning program that gives students the unique experience of working together to help raise awareness and funds in honor of thousands of children and adults fighting blood cancers.
Leukemia is one of the leading fatal cancers of children ages 1 – 20. The 5-year survival rate for children under the age of 20 with the most common form of leukemia (ALL) went from 3% in the 1960s to over 90% today.
Every day we are getting closer to finding cures for all blood cancers!
Join our Hero Squad! Our goal is to raise $1,200 and WE NEED YOR HELP! We are asking that everyone (students, faculty, parents, alumni, etc.) at Tiogue Elementary School (this spelling) join in this effort of raising awareness and giving funds to benefit the mission of LLS. Share this link with your family and friends. Click on the link here https://events.lls.org/pages/ri/TiogueElementarySchool-2019 or find your student’s school at www.PenniesForPatients.org.

Please consider filling out this annual Dept. of Education survey - we would like your input
The RI Dept. Of Education's SurveyWorks Opened on January 14th (See information Below)
Dear Parents:
The Rhode Island Department of Education is currently administering its yearly SurveyWorks Parent Survey, which is an opportunity for parents to provide feedback about our school and our children’s opportunities to learn. The survey results are most useful when all parents participate, so I am writing to ask you to participate in this survey.
Your views on matters like the safety of your child at school, the way students are taught, the condition of the school, and how connected you feel to this school are important. By taking this short survey you can help our school leadership and our parent-teacher organization to make improvements to our school. Responses are anonymous and cannot be linked to any individual; no one can tie your responses back to you.
You can take the short survey online between January 14th and March 31th. To take the survey, visit: surveys.panoramaed.com/ride then enter: 06116family to gain access to Tiogue School's Survey. Each school in the state has their own individual code.
Thank you,
Dom Giusti
