THE FIRST CCS FAIR QUEEN REPRESENTATIVE
The Cullman County Fair Queen competition takes place each fall during the Cullman County Fair. This competition is now a qualifier for Miss Alabama and Miss Teen Alabama. Historically this competition has consisted of one representative from each of the Cullman County Schools high schools (Cold Springs, Fairview, Good Hope, Hanceville, Holly Pond, Vinemont, and West Point) and one representative from Cullman City Schools (Cullman High School). In the fall of 2023, the CCS representative will join the competition.
Congratulations to our winner, Miss Gracie Lee!
BOOK FAIR WEEK & DRESS UP DAYS
Several of our staff and PTF parents have worked on the decorations and they look great!
The book fair will be open Monday-Thursday. Classes have a specific time scheduled each day to shop; this means you can send money everyday or one lump sum. Remember to put Pre-K and lower elementary students' money in an envelope or ziplock labeled with the amount they are allowed to spend on both books and non-book items.
PLEASE NOTE: we will be charging tax this year due to a change in Scholastic's policies. If you would like to use a debit/credit card you can Mrs. Candase to set up a time to shop after school. Also, students are encouraged to participate in dress-up days this week. However, we do ask that families keep dress code in mind.
REJOICING IN OUR FREEDOM TO PRAY EVERY DAY
At CCS we are incredibly thankful for our freedom to not only start each morning in prayer together, but also the ability to pray out loud throughout the school day! In fact, our teachers are encourage to pray with and over their students. It's not unusual to see a class praying together, or even friends praying with each other.
To celebrate this freedom, morning worship and devotion time was held around the cross at the front of the school.
AWARD WINNING ESSAY
Earlier this year one of our 6th grade students was named as the state essay winner. Lily Kate's essay was also recognized at the national level. You can read her entry below.
Great job, Lily Kate!

Short Story
Nathan’s Struggles
Peering from behind a curtain was Nathan. He was getting ready to go on stage for the
play, but he was afraid. In his mind he thought that he would embarrass himself in front of
everyone. When his cue came, he just stood there. People told him to go, but he got so scared
that he ran out.
After everyone left, his mom, Mary, asked, “Why did you not come out on stage?”
Nathan sighed and said, “I don’t know. I guess I got too nervous.”
That was not the first time that it had ever happened. Every night he could not go to
sleep because of it. He couldn’t figure out what it was. His mom took him to a therapist and they
found out that he had anxiety. The therapist told him that teens often get anxiety and it can
affect them in many different ways. “How did you feel when you were about to go on stage?” Dr.
John asked. “My stomach felt weird and I had trouble breathing,” Nathan replied. “Ok, anything
else?” Dr. John asked. “That’s it,” said Nathan. “What calms you down when you get anxiety?”
Asked Dr. John. “Animals. They don’t criticize you and they are always there for you,” said
Nathan. “So this is what I want you to do,” Dr. John said, “Whenever you feel anxious, get close
to an animal and just talk to it. If that doesn’t work, just cuddle with it.” Nathan nodded and
walked out.
When Nathan and his mom got to the car, he didn’t say a word. “What’s wrong?” Asked
Mary. “I don’t want to have anxiety!” He exclaimed. “It’s not really your choice,” she told him.
Nathan scowled and looked out the window.
The next day at school, Nathan and his friend, Lucus, were eating lunch and talking
about Nathan’s anxiety, when suddenly they saw that someone had gotten sick. Nathan started
to get anxious. He didn’t have any animals with him, so he thought about his awesome dog,
Barker. He calmed down and went back to class.
During his next session with Dr. John, Nathan told him what happened at school and
how he handled it. “Isn’t that great!” He said with excitement. “Yes, it is great, but why did you
get so afraid when that kid got sick?” Dr. John asked. “Because I don’t want to get sick,” said
Nathan. “You need to control that,” said Dr. John. Nathan frowned and walked out of the office.
They got home and Nathan played with his dog. He thought about what Dr. John had
said. “How do I control it?” He thought to himself. His mom walked into his room and sat down
with him. “Why are you upset? Dr. John told you what to do when you feel anxious,” she said.
“He told me that I need to control it. I don’t know how to control it,” he told her. Robart, his dad,
came in and said, “It means don’t get anxious about something that most people wouldn’t get
worried about.” Before they walked out, they said a prayer for Nathan.
Nathan’s alarm woke him up, and when he went to go get breakfast, he saw that his little
sister, Kate, was sick. He got a little scared, but he just walked off while saying a prayer for his
sister.
At his session with Dr. John, he told him about his little sister and about how he calmed
down. “Great job! You’ve come a long way since our first session,” Dr. John told him. Nathan smiled and ran to the car. “You look like you're in a better mood,” said Mary. “I am,” he
said with confidence.
Nathan may have struggled a lot that year, but it turned out to be the best year of his life.

GOLF TOURNAMENT TEAM REGISTRATION
Each school year we host two major fundraising events. One of them is our Feed the Need project in the fall. The other is our upcoming golf tournament, the CCS Annual Golf Classic. These events help provide the financial stability needed to keep our tuition costs low for our families.
The Golf Classic event is one month away so it's time for us to ramp up our requests for teams and sponsors. We need your help to spread the word!
Getting the word out is simple. Anytime you see a post on our Facebook page, please share it. This helps make it visible for more people. However, the BEST WAY to spread the word is by word of mouth! Please tell your friends and family members about this important event.
Attached you will find two documents: one for team registration and the other for sponsorships. Please feel free to download, post, and distribute to the people you know. You can also direct them to our webpage at cullmanchristian.org/golf-tournament for information and online registration.
Thank you in advance for your help in promoting this event!
SPONSORSHIPS FOR THE GOLF TOURNAMENT
If you have a business or know someone who does, we have sponsorship opportunities available for the upcoming Golf Classic.
