CyberPatriots
We have another awesome opportunity for our students in the STEM field. CyberPatriots is a program that will be offered after school as an enrichment starting soon. Here is a little bit about the program: Cyber security is one of the most pressing problems facing individuals, families, governments and companies. The Air Force Association, along with Northrup Grumman, is sponsoring a nation-wide competition to teach kids about cyber security. Teams will compete in a series of virtual tasks in which they will attempt to guarantee the safety of a (virtual) computer from hackers. Students compete in two qualifying rounds and, if eligible, a national competition in Washington DC. No experience necessary to join. Please see Mr. Shapland for more information.
Representative Needed
Are you interested in being part of a committee that talks about funding for Dwyer? We have an opening for the District English Language Advisory Committee (DELAC). This member will represent our English Learner population and meets to discuss how funding impacts this group of students .
If you have interest in this committee, please email or contact the office. We can give you more information or specifics on meeting dates.
Soaking in the Knowledge
Environmental Science students used the digital microscopes to analyze similarities and differences in natural and artificial sponges.
Dawn Patrol
Dwyer's Surf Club began meeting Tuesday morning. We have quite an impressive number of early risers catching waves!
Our APA Connection
Members of APA Jr., as well as other Jr. Oilers, visited the APA performance of Little Mermaid. It is great for students to see how they can be a part of the arts in the future.
Principal for the Day
Mr. James O'Callaghan, President and CEO of the HB Chamber of Commerce, joined us on Thursday as Principal for the Day. Mr. O'Callaghan toured classrooms and participated in our Great ShakeOut earthquake drill. He was very impressed with all of the great lessons from teachers and how well the students collaborated in their learning!
Viscosity
8th grade scientists were recording data on different viscosity of liquids this week. Mrs. Zellmer asked groups to time up to 5 different liquids on a declining plane.
