Data Meetings and District Learning Walk
Team Columbia:
Good job Team Columbia! We had a wonderful District Learning Walk. The district was pleased with what they saw. Objectives and Before, During & Afters were posted. Students appeared to be engaged. They also saw students working in groups and various technology activities.
Some areas of opportunities that they highlighted was higher order questioning. Many questions asked were at the recall level. More questioning needs to at the analyze, evaluative and synthesis levels.
Please refer to your lesson plans to the questioning section. We must ensure that we are preparing Factual, Conceptual, and Debatable questions to make sure students are exposed to higher level questioning. We will review this concept going forward.
The Data Meetings have been very informative and helpful to all involved. I will be sending out the Data Meetings Outcomes this week. It was very refreshing to engage in conversations that were reflective, solution oriented, data driven and inspiring. There are many great things going on in our classrooms. Keep up the good work!!
Have a great week of teaching and learning!

TAKE ATTENDANCE DAILY IN EACH CLASS PERIOD IN INOW!!
In order to improve classroom attendance, we will begin Schoolcast attendance messages (via phone, text, and email) for each class period for all high schools. The new process will begin on Monday September 17, 2018. Parents will receive a separate message for each class that the student is listed as absent in INOW. If a student misses 4 classes, the parent will receive 4 separate messages during the day, noting the class period missed by the student.
When a parent receives a Schoolcast attendance message, the caller ID will display the school’s main phone number. If a teacher fails to take attendance at the start of the class period, parents could mistakenly receive a message about their child being absent from that class. Your phone switchboard could have a huge volume of calls from concerned parents if attendance is not taken at the beginning of class.

Classroom Material & Supplies - $536.07 per Unit (2018 - $421.51)
Technology - $300.00 per Unit (2018 - $211.51)
Professional Development - $90.00 per Unit (2018 - $77.55)
Library Enhancement - $96.14 per Unit (2018 - 30.44)
Total Units earned by Columbia: 56.42
Like last year, we will have to decide whether we will waive the following allocations to the district or not:
- Technology
- Professional Development
We will also have to decide if we would like to pool our Library Enhancement for a common purchase. Last year, we decided to pool our money and purchase the laminator.
Also, if we decide not the waive any money to the district, we will have to decide if we would pool that money for common purchases.
All decisions will be made by secret ballot.
We will also choose a Budget Committee. The committee will consist of the Principal, Librarian and three other members. If you would like to serve on this committee, please send me an email.
Please note, all purchases made with any State Allocation funds must stay at the school. The units earned by the school, belong to the school. Therefore, materials purchased by these funds belong to the school, not the teacher and may be used by the teacher as long as they are employed at this school.
