What is a Black Eyed Susan Award?
A Black Eyed Susan is the Maryland State Flower.
In the library world, the Black Eyed Susan Award is an award that is give to authors and illustrators of outstanding books chosen by school aged children. This is a Maryland specific award.

What is the Black Eyed Susan Challenge?
Grade 3-5 - Picture Books (Fiction & Non-Fiction)
Reflection Option #1: Fill out a Reflection Sheet
Reflection Option #2: FlipGrid Video Reflections for Picture Books, Novels, & Graphic Novels.
Each category is linked to it's challenge sheet and provides a list of all nominated books. When students meet the challenge in their category, they can vote for their favorite book and participate in an end of the year activity.
Why Should Students Participate in the Black Eyed Susan Challenge?
You get to read some really awesome books!
If you read three or more books (from one list) you get to vote and have your voice heard!
If you read 7 or more novels or graphic novels (from one list) you will be invited to be part of the end of the year celebration (details coming soon).
If you read all of the books on your list, your name goes on the Black Eyed Susan All Star Wall.
What is the End of Year Celebration?
