Watauga County is located in the mountain region of North Carolina. Our bordering counties include; Ashe County, Wilkes County, Caldwell County, and Avery County. Our county was founded in 1849, and was named after the Watauga river.

We have 5 members on our board of commissioners. Our county manager is Deron Geouque, and boy does he have a beautiful face. Our county seat is Boone. There are 5 members on our town council seat. Our town manager is John Ward. The man with the most beautiful face, our mayor, is Rennie Brantz.

Come ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway!
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a national parkway and all American rode that runs through Watauga and is noted for it's beauty. The parkway, while not a National Park, has been the most visited location in the National Park System every year since 1946, with the exception of two years.
Our County Seat is named after the legendary pioneer, Daniel Boone!
Our County Seat is known for being named after the famous American pioneer and explorer, Daniel Boone! We hold a drama titled "Horn in the West", and it is based around Daniel Boone's struggle to preserve his freedom under the British rule. Be sure to come and have a good time while learning about a famous American pioneer!
