News from this week
Dear Parents,
Thank you SO much for all of your thoughtful treats this week for Teacher Appreciation! I feel very appreciated as well as very grateful. I have such a great group of students AND parents this year, and I appreciate all of you very much!
We have been cramming in a lot of information and grades this week, and we have another busy week coming up again. We have our Language Arts and Math DA's, another in house "Water on Wheels" field trip, our field trip to the Georgia Capitol Museum, an author visit with children's author, Carmen Deedy, and our end of year reading celebration for students with 100% reading logs for the year. Scroll down to see all of the upcoming dates.
I'm not sure if many of you know, but we will be doing our end of the year Awards' Celebration differently this year. Instead of having the whole 4th grade together to give the awards, each teacher will hand out awards in a classroom celebration. We will continue to have awards for all As, As & Bs, Extra Effort, and Perfect Attendance, along with awards that I would like to give to the students. I would like to do this awards' presentation during the eating part of our class party, so that parents who would like to come to both will be able to do so at the same time. Our class party and awards' celebration will be held from 10:30-12:00 on Thursday, May 17. This is also the same day as Field Day which will be from 8:30-10:00. If you have any questions about this, you can email me anytime.
Students did a great job with the writing portion of their Book Club projects! The technology portion is due next Friday. To view the choice board and the due dates, click here: https://bit.ly/2Fpg4Uy
Please continue to remind your students to work hard, listen to their teachers, control their talking, and most importantly, be respectful of other students and their teachers until the last day of school!
Please encourage your child to get on to Education Galaxy to practice for the District Assessments we have over the next 2 weeks.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Important Information
Parents,
We have an exciting school wide initiative for the 2018-2019 school year! Gwin Oaks Elementary School will be a PBIS School.
What is PBIS?
PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions Support) is a framework that will give Gwin Oaks Elementary School unified school expectations. Similar to the Gwin Oaks Elementary School Handbook, these rules will define our expectations for behavior in our school. You will see these expectations posted throughout the school and your child will be learning them during his or her first days at school. Our unified school expectations, found in every classroom and non-classroom setting in the school, are as follows:
Be Ready
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
As part of our PBIS process, teachers and other staff members use the discipline data we accumulate to develop evidence-based practices to increase student learning and decrease classroom disruptions. We will have incentives to encourage students to adopt the expectations in a positive manner. We look forward to sharing more with you and your student for the
2018-2019 school year.
Signed by the PBIS Committee
