Bearcat Brief
March 16th
Orrick R-XI School District Families
I hope this finds everyone doing well and enjoying your spring break. I am sure you are all aware of what is going on with COVID-19. I have participated in a variety of conference calls over the last few days with local health officials, city government leaders, state agencies, and area school superintendents related to the COVID-19 pandemic. After much discussion and consideration, and asking ourselves what is best for our students , staff and community, the decision has been made to close Orrick R-XI Schools through Friday, April 3, 2020 (School may resume April 6th). The closure applies to all district schools, and all extra-curricular activities and practices. While closings and cancellations have become more commonplace, please know this has not been an easy decision.
I will be meeting with administration and essential school personnel this Friday to determine how we will move forward during this difficult time. We will be looking at Alternative Methods of Instruction for our students. Our hope is to have this information to you early next week.
Another issue that has been weighing on all of us in recent days, with the likelihood of extended school closures, has been how to ensure those students and families that depend on us for nutrition services will continue to be served. Please know that we have been working diligently to develop a plan to assist families who may need additional support during this challenging time.
We wanted to share this information with you as soon as possible to allow families time to prepare for the extended closure. Additional information, with details and specifics, will be forthcoming. Also, any necessary updates will be provided on the school district website (www.orrick.k12.mo.us), Facebook and the District App.
I would like to offer a heartfelt "thank you" to the Ray and Clay County Public Health Centers, as well as other area superintendents and anyone who have been spending countless hours working to keep us safe and healthy. All of these entities should be commended for their efforts. I also appreciate the commitment of our Board of Education and Orrick Administration for their dedication to best serve our students, staff, families, and community.
We know that you have many questions, and we will do our best to address your concerns. Currently, it seems that there are more unknowns than answers, including questions about kindergarten registration, prom, graduation and summer school, among others. We are working on how to address these and other questions and will continue to keep you informed.
Thank you for your support and partnership as we continue to navigate through this time. Please never hesitate to reach out to us with any questions.
Sincerely,
Dr. Scott Archibald
Superintendent - Orrick R-XI School District
