Camp Chef, Camp Pathfinder

  • The Pathfinder Chef is in charge of the food service program, and directs the camp’s daily meal services and kitchen staff. The chef position requires prior experience in charge of a summer camp food service program or the equivalent.

    Duties:

    • Lead cook and baker, including special diets per needs of the population.

    • Responsible for the management of the day to day kitchen operation.

    • Supervise a small team incl. cook, baker, assistants for daily meal service.

    • Responsible for purchasing and maintaining inventory for food and dry good

      items for food service, both in-camp and for a canoe tripping program.

    • Responsible to monitor and control food costs within the annual budget

      determined with the Camp Director.

    • Create the camp menu in partnership with the Camp Director.

    • Schedule work hours and time off, assign daily duties, maintain excellent health

      and hygiene practices and enforce worker policies.

      Experience / Skills:

    • Prior experience in charge of a summer camp food service program or equivalent

    • 2 - 3 years’ experience cooking in a summer camp setting or the equivalent.

    • Extensive knowledge of menu planning, food buying and inventory control.

    • Excellent communication and staff management skills.

    • Secondary School Completion required

    • Culinary education qualifications or certification required

    • Cuisine specialties: Canadian, Italian, Mexican, Vegetarian, special diets, etc.

    • $800cn per week, duration may be up to 23 weeks May 10 – October 15,

    Camp Cook, Camp Pathfinder

    The Camp Cook reports to the Camp chef and provides daily meal and baking service. Up to two positions may be available.

    Duties:

    • Assist the Camp Chef in cooking and baking production.

    • Assist the Camp Chef in management of the day to day kitchen operation.

    • Manage the kitchen staff and the meal service in the absence of the Camp chef.

    • Maintain excellent health and hygiene practices, and adhere to the camp's kitchen

      work policies.

    • Assist in ensuring that special diet meals are prepared for campers, staff and

      visitors with special needs.

    • Work to ensure that camp minimizes food waste and complies with Algonquin

      Park regulations for food and waste handling.

      Experience / Skills:

    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in comparable setting required.

    • Prior experience preferred in a children's summer camp kitchen/food service.

    • Secondary School completion required.

    • Culinary education qualifications or certification required

    • Cooking/baking skills for large groups.

    • Excellent teamwork skills.

    • Cuisine specialties: Canadian, Italian, Mexican, Vegetarian, special diets, etc.

    • Number of positions: 1 – 2. One position may commence earlier due to camp

      opening and small group food service in advance of the main season.

    Assistant Camp Cook, Camp Pathfinder

    Camp assistant cooks report to the Camp chef and assist with daily meal and baking service. Up to two positions may be available.

    Duties:

    • The camp assistant cook reports to the camp chef

    • Assists with preparation of daily meals for all camp food service

    • Food preparation, maintain kitchen cleanliness, and manage food storage

    • The assistant cook is able to independently prepare camp meals

    • Work positively with the kitchen staff as a team

    • Some baking experience required.

      Experience / Skills:

    • 2 years’ comparable experience in a commercial production kitchen setting.

    • Excellent team work skills.

    • Seasonal/Full Time.

    • Number of positions: 1 - 2

    • Day/Evening/Night, Weekday/Weekend.

    • $500cn per week, duration approximately 10 weeks in June, July, August

The Line Cook positions reports directly to the Executive Chef.

You will be part of a culinary team that creates excellent dining experiences for our patrons at our Festival Theatre Café, through our patron lunches and picnics, in our staff and company Greenroom and in all aspects of banqueting events. This position is a seasonal contract, February to October, with up to 40 hours per week.

The position offers the possibility of an extention or renewal, based on performance and business demand.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Passion for the culinary arts with a minimum of two years kitchen experience required • Demonstrable knowledge of current food trends, dietary and food allergy awareness

• Ability to work well in a team – collaborating with colleagues and daily flexibility of duties is essential, including ability to learn and use the Festival’s point-of-sale system

• Safe Food Handling or equivalent certification required • Canadian Red Seal or equivalent certification is an asset

• Availability on weekends, evenings and early morning shifts required
