Kindergarten Chicks
At the end of May our Kindergarten chicks hatched out of their eggs! We were so excited to watch the chicks as they hatched and then dried off inside the incubator. The 11 chicks stayed at Pond Cove just long enough for us to observe and hold them. After being here for about a week, our chicks returned to Alewive's Farm to grow up and continue the chick life cycle that we have been studying!
Writer's Workshop: Narrative Mini-Unit
As a fun way to wrap up out Kindergarten Writer's Workshop, we have returned to writing narratives. We reviewed the important parts of every story, including characters, setting, a "kick-off event," and feelings. Our class also used our writing partners to share and edit our stories. I have truly been blown away with the writing progress our Kindergarten class has made this year!
Math Update - Time and Money
Our last two Kindergarten math goals have to do with time and money. Students have been practicing identifying coins by name (penny, nickel, quarter, dime) and telling time to the hour. These are great skills to practice at home as well! Have your child help you sort the spare change around the house, or have them tell you the time on an analog clock in your house.
Arts Day
On Friday May 29 Pond Cove students enjoyed an amazing Arts Day! This annual event, sponsored by the PCPA, brings local artists in to do a variety of arts workshops with our students. Our class got to try our hand at music making and singing, karate, and collage making! At the end of the day, we were treated to an all-school assembly starring a two-man performance by Off the Wall. The two men in the act performed fun juggling, balancing, and escape artist techniques while encouraging our students to pursue their dreams by practicing and never giving up!
Reading Buddies
On Thursday June 3 we had our final visit with our fifth grade reading buddies. We had such a great time this year making some middle school friends and practicing our reading with them each month. As a special treat, we went outside on the middle school playground before wishing them all a wonderful summer. Special thanks to Ms. Newton and her fifth graders for being such great buddies this year!
