Unit of Inquiries
Who we are: An inquiry into the nature of the self, beliefs and values; personal, physical, mental , social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities and cultures: rights and responsibilities, what it means to be human.
Central idea
Making informed choices is fundamental to a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
Key concepts:
- What are the fundamentals of a balanced lifestyle?
- How do the choices we make effect our health?
- What action can be taken to make better choices? What will be the consequences of these actions?
Sharing The Planet: An inquiry into rights and responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other people and with other living things; communities and the relationships within and between them; access to equal opportunities; peace and conflict resolution.

The Earth’s natural cycles influence the activity of living things.

- Natural cycles
- The actions living things take in response to Earth’s natural cycle
- Patterns of behavior in living things related to Earth’s natural cycles
How The World Works: An inquiry into the natural world and its laws; the interaction between the natural world (physical and biological) and human societies; how humans use their understanding of scientific principles; the impact of scientific and technological advances on society and on the environment.

Patterns and cycles can help us understand the earth and nature.

- How do day and night cycles work
- Why do seasonal changes affect the earth and living creatures?

How we organize ourselves: An inquiry into the interconnectedness of human made systems and communities; the structure and function of organisations; societal decisions making; economic activities and their impact on humankind and the environment.

People use transport systems for different reasons and they are influenced by where and how they live.

- What are different types of transport systems?
- How does transport help connect people in different locations?
- Why is transport and transportation systems important?
Learning about Cultures and Communication
Cultures Day
Compare suitability of every day materials, houses in the past and now. What did they use for windows. I know other cultures that used similar materials for building houses.
Introduction to different types of communication. Different ways to communicate. Understanding how people who cannot use their senses communicate. Learning to sing hppy birthday in sign language. Science – Seeds and bulbs what will they grow into /identification and describing.
PY2 have had a wonderful year learning all about healthy lifestyles, life cycles, Earth cycles, transport, cultures and stories. A favourite day was going to the transport museum and sitting inside a real life plane. We even got to go in the cockpit! We have learnt so much information and we are now able to create our own videos using everything we have learnt. We have experienced the essence of friendship, team work and have grown and matured as a class.
