WAVA Month of Connection with our Virtual Food Drive
Happening This Month
December:
Welcome to December, I hope you and your family had a wonderful break over the Native American Heritage Day and are looking forward to our upcoming holidays. This month is our 7 Mindset month of "We Are Connected", think of ways you are connected to others, your friends, family and your community. WAVA has a Virtual Food Drive this month to Connect with our community and others in need. Take a moment to visit to link and contribute and or bring a non-perishable item to your local food bank and snap a photo to share. If each WAVA family contributed $10 as a goal we can fill the food banks throughout WA for this upcoming winter break. Our WAVA staff and resource coordinator team also works to offer support to WAVA families in need this season. Before winter break take time to connect with your teachers, encourage students to have their camera on, attend out outing for our All School Winter Weather Day and more! Winter Break starts December 19th and we look forward to seeing you back in call on January 3rd for our "I'm Back Week" events.
Sincerely,
WAVA Executive Director, Susan Boyer

Testing and Assessment Update
Washington students in grades 3-8 and 10 take in-person state assessments in English/Language Arts and Mathematics. Students in grades 5, 8, and 11 also take an in-person exam in Science. Students in Grades 11 and 12 who have not previously passed the ELA and Math exams are also allowed to attempt them again to meet graduation assessment pathway requirements. WAVA will administer the spring tests between April 24 and May 19, 2023.
WAVA offers 30 testing sites across the state to ensure that you will not have to travel more than one hour to attend any required exams. The attached 2022-2023 Family State Testing Guide contains a list of all the cities where we have testing sites in Appendix D. If have any conflicts with your assigned site, this list can help you determine if another site may be more convenient for you.
Before we can schedule students for testing, the first step is to confirm that you are assigned to a testing site that is reasonable based on where you live. This is your opportunity to review the location we plan on scheduling your testing, and either lock it in or request a change based on your needs.
On Friday, December 2nd, emails will begin to go out from tntesting@wava.org asking you to review and confirm your assigned spring testing site. Please take a moment to review your site and confirm it. Use the list in Appendix D of the 2022-2023 Family State Testing Guide to review other locations if needed. Select Agree if the site is fine. If you need to request a change, select Do Not Agree and add a note listing your preferred location or change request. Your comments will be reviewed and we will work with you to make sure you are assigned at an appropriate site.
If there is no site that is less than one hour from your residence, you may request to test as a guest at your local school district. Select Do Not Agree to your site assignment, then you must email your request to dbeyer@wava.org. If you meet the eligibility requirements, WAVA will make the arrangements with your local school. We may not be able to respond to requests after January 31st, 2023 so it’s important that you review your site assignment carefully.
*If you do not receive an email from tntesting@wava.org by Tuesday, December 6th, please check your SPAM/JUNK folder. If you still can't find it, please email your homeroom teacher and ask that the email be sent again. It's important that you receive all the information you need.
Please save a copy of the attached 2022-2023 Family State Testing Guide. This manual is for your reference and contains a lot of helpful information about how state testing is scheduled and provided at our school.
You will have until December 16th to contact me with any questions, concerns, or requests for site changes. After that, I will be assigning students to seats within the schedule, and changes will only be made if there are seats available on your preferred schedule.
I look forward to serving you and your family as we all work together to ensure your student and our school remain successful.
