Peer Leaders to Visit 6th Grade Classrooms
This year, we will continue the implementation of the World of Difference Peer Leader Program at Medway Middle School. One goal of this program is to further educate students on our District’s core values. We feel strongly that providing our students with additional learning experiences will provide them a valuable opportunity to learn and understand who they are as individuals and the importance of respecting, accepting, and celebrating human differences.
This fall, we identified students in grades 7 and 8 to become Peer Leaders. Peer Leaders participated in three full days of training and continued to meet after school weekly to plan lessons to share with our 6th grade students. As we communicated, the first of these lessons took place in 6th grade classrooms today. The theme for today's lesson was self-identity and making connections with others. Be sure to ask your 6th grader about their experience.
We would like to thank our Peer Leaders for their dedication to this program and their willingness to share their learning with others. Special thanks are also extended to our faculty advisors Jennifer Lindsey and Julie Lafferty

This is the HYPE description:
HYPE is a new after school student group at Medway Middle School that stands for Healthy Youth Empowerment. The goal of this extracurricular activity is to help build youth leaders who are empowered to advocate on issues of health and wellness and encourage healthy choices among their peers. After school meetings will include nutritious snacks, games, discussions, and project time for students to develop creative ways to share health tips throughout the school.
The group will meet once a week on Tuesdays after school until 3:10 p.m., and a late bus will be available for transportation home. While regular attendance is highly encouraged, all participation is voluntary. This group is made possible with the collaborative partnership of Medway Middle School and ‘SUP Medway, a youth drug prevention coalition. For any questions, Gabby Giannelli, info@supmedway.com

Say Something Anonymous Reporting System
Last week, our students participated in the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System training.
The Say Something Anonymous Reporting System training supported youth and adults to recognize warning signs -- especially within social media -- of individuals who may be in crisis and to tell a trusted adult directly or via the anonymous reporting system.
Specifically, the Say Something program educates participants to:
Recognize the warning signs of someone who may be at risk of harming themselves or others.
Take every warning sign and threat seriously; act immediately to get help by talking to a trusted adult OR reporting it through the telephone hotline, mobile app, or website that is available 24/7/365 days a year.
Sustain the curriculum and awareness via student clubs, in-school activities, call-to-action weeks, and ongoing training.
Students can report a tip in the following ways:
- Tell a trusted adult
- Report a tip through the telephone hotline that is available 24/7/ 365 days year
- 1-844-5-SAYNOW
- Utilize the mobile app
- Say Something SHP
- Report a tip through the website that is available 24/7/365 days a year
