Parent Newsletter
Bromley East Charter School
January 29, 2021
BECS Families:
Thank you for a wonderful start to 2021! We are nearing the end of January and couldn’t be more pleased with how the return to learning has gone. Thank you, also, to those families who completed the parent/guardian survey. We will be sharing the results and trends with the staff, Board of Directors, and parents once the data has been collected and organized. In addition, we hope to have a decision made on next year’s school calendar. We will share all of the aforementioned information when it is complete.
Please review the newsletter in its entirety and contact the main office or an administrator if you have any questions.
Take care,
BECS Administration

Changes to Reporting a Student Absence - Beginning Tuesday, January 19th
Every morning families will receive a text reminder on reporting a sick student. If your student(s) will be home sick or exposed to Covid 19, please open the following link and complete the sick student screener.
Please fill out the screening form online and submit it electronically. Please be sure to press submit at the end of the screener. This will streamline COVID screening processes.
If you fill out the sick student form, you do not have to call the school's attendance line to report your student’s absence.
If your student is missing school for anything other than an illness, please call the attendance line to report the absence.
If your student's symptoms have lasted over 24 hours, the nurse or site coordinator for your school will reach out to you by phone for the next steps.
Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT)
As a part of required state testing, students in grades 2 and 6 will be taking the CogAT test beginning on February 1st. This information will be helpful in reviewing how students process and respond to information. Test results will be shared with parents later this Spring. Please contact Cindy Hirst for any questions.
Hawk Hour
Hawk Hour is back!!! It is virtual this year and is offered on an invitation-only basis. It will be at 3:25-3:55 Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for Middle School students who need extra support in their core classes based on grades that week. Students and parents will be emailed an invitation with a link for which day they are invited to. Students are asked to only attend on the day they are invited to, as other students are slotted for the other days offered. This is not mandatory, just extra assistance for students to stay on track. If you have any questions in regards to Hawk Hour please contact Ms. Vicki Miller in the counseling department.

Intent to Return 20/21 School Year & New Student Enrollment
We ask that every current BECS family complete our Intent to Return form declaring your family’s intentions for the coming year. Please fill out one form for each of your students. *8th grade families please disregard this. The deadline for the completed Intent to Return process is Friday, February 26th, 2021.
Soft Start
Starting on Tuesday, January 19, students in grades K - 8 will follow the inside morning routine for a soft start.
Students should maintain their normal drop off times and locations. Students should not arrive on campus before 8:00 AM. (See Arrival/Dismissal section below)
Upon arrival, students will enter through their grade level doors and report to their classroom, where their temperature will be taken.
The school day will continue to start at 8:30 AM.
Valentine Celebrations
This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday. Due to safety restrictions, we will not be able to have traditional Valentine celebrations this year. We are asking families to not send treats, candy, or Valentine’s cards, but hope you can enjoy these things safely at home. We will however be having Spirit Week the week prior to the break and will share our details soon.
