Panther Post
September 11th - September 16th
Hello Lopez Families,
It has been a very busy week, but a fun one. We have had kids helping out with Hurricane Harvey relief and it has been very successful. It is nice to see our kids care so much for others. We are also going to help out another school that has been devastated by the flooding in Orange, Texas. Our teachers have been collecting supplies for Maurice Elementary and our National Junior Honor Society has been collecting supplies from students and parents for Maurice Middle School who is also the Panthers. . We also found out that most of their students had already brought their school supplies to campus before the storm and the student’s supplies were lost as well. The teachers we’ve been talking to suggested that any items from the school supply list would be very welcome to the teachers, as they combine many of the student’s supplies to create class sets. The Lopez students have the list of needed supplies so any help you wish to give would be appreciated. We don't want good teaching to take a day off.
We also had our first volleyball game of the year and it started out with a bang. Both grade levels won all three of their games against Wood Middle School. I was lucky enough to go to the 7th grade game all the way over to Wood. It was a lot of fun and it was good meeting the parents of these great kids. I was amazed when Ashley Mitchell scored 16 straight points off her serve! She is the one in the picture below. I talked with her parents in the stands and I could tell they were very proud and so was I.
This past Saturday our football teams held an intrasquad scrimmage at Lopez along with their annual picnic. We had a great turn out and it was a lot of fun seeing the boys getting ready for their season opener on Wednesday versus Wood. Thank you coaches for spending your Saturday up here for the kids!
I look forward to seeing everyone here Tuesday night for our parent back to school night. Tuesday during the day, we are going to have the kids text a picture of their schedule to you. Please bring this with you so you can see where to go. If you can find someone to watch your kids at home, try to do so since we wouldn't be able to fit the parents and kids in all the rooms at once. Also, we will have the parking lot across the street at Hardy Oak available as an overflow.
Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wernli
