How can Technology Help You and Help Your Students
I am taking a course on Google Suites for Education. The major point of the course is to show how technology can help you be more effective and increase student engagement and retention.
The chart above summarizes 4 areas how technology is used for teaching. Examples are as follows:
- SUBSTITUTION: Use Microsoft Word instead of writing by hand, better for some.
- AUGMENTATION: Use the text to speech feature to have your computer read to you
- MODIFICATION: Use a google template to give students a scaffold.
- REDEFINITION: Use a tool like Flipgrid or Wevideo to let your students tape or video an assignment, clearly using technology for the assignment.

Use Nearpod for Inquiry Based Learning
Check out the engaging slide shows you can create with your own PowerPoint. Examine the NearPod Slide Show I created about hunger insecurity. Read the Nearpod blog for details.
Use Flipgrid to Have Your Students Tape Their Responses
Flipgrid lets you assign students a task which they can upload to the slide. Only students in your class with the specific code can see the videos. This feature interacts with Nearpod.
Both tools can be easily assigned in Google Classroom. This is the link to my flipgrid.

Adding Rubrics to Your Assignments in Google Classroom
You can easily add rubrics to a class assignment. Go to add assignment, create your assignment, look to the right and click on "rubric". This will let you add a rubric. When the student opens the assignment, he or she will be able to see the rubric as they work on the assignment.
