Hawk Talk
Peninsula High School - October 30th, 2020
A Message from Dr. Potts
Dear Seahawk Families,
It is an understatement to say that we are living in very challenging times, but it is a testimony to our resilience that we are managing to stay connected and engaged in a mostly remote learning environment.
Mid-Semester Progress Reports. As we near the mid-way point of the first semester, we want to assist families and students. To that end, we are sending out this Friday a mid-semester progress report. We will send this electronically and by US mail. The goal is to take stock and to evaluate academic progress to date.
The grades on the reports are not permanent, and there is plenty of time to strengthen performance. If parents have questions or need assistance, we ask that they contact teachers directly. Now is a good time if there is a need.
Pause and Recalibration. As a follow up, during Homeroom November 4th, we will equip students with a planner and an organizational structure for their assignments. We are also working to make Schoology more consistent and streamlined for easy access. On Thursday and Friday, November 5th and 6th , we will pause all classes for one day, assigning no new work nor assessments. This will give students time to catch up, identify missing work, and it will enable teachers to identify priority assignments for all students and to work with those who are struggling. Even students who are doing well should use this time to double-check submissions, re-take tests, and revise tasks for grade improvement. In other words, these are not days off.
Please assist us by asking your student to make a list of what is missing and what needs improvement. This can be generated by looking at PowerSchool or Schoology. Departments are accepting late work, and there is the chance to re-take tests in most classes. Start with the list, and let’s get going.
Small Pod Activity. Beginning November 18th, we will, if permitted by local and state health organizations, identify those in general education settings who are struggling for one reason or another, and invite them to campus for check-in and focused discussions with teachers. These opportunities will happen on Wednesdays. We will offer transportation, and there will be a sign-up process and an orderly and safe set of procedures for entering and working in the building.
Go Seahawks.

We would like to thank our PSD bus drivers, mechanics and transportation staff at the PSD Transportation Office during Transportation Appreciation Week. Although their job looks a bit different this year, we know they are still working hard transporting students, helping the kitchen staff deliver meals, providing wifi hot spots, and giving a friendly wave and a smile to our students and staff every day.
Please enjoy this video made by the PHS Leadership students and teachers!
