Winter Driving Tips!
Note From Police Chief Fisher
The Gooding Police Department would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas a great New Year. Officers are participating in our annual No Shave November fund raiser to purchase toys and other necessary items for our local children. We have raised just over $1,000.00 this year. $750 of this, however, is holdover funds from late donations last year. There is still time to donate as we plan to make purchases with these funds the week of December 16th. Donations may be made in person at the City Hall, the Police Department, or by mail at 308 5th Ave West, Gooding, ID 83330.
Winter has finally arrived and it is time to check your vehicles for proper working order of its equipment, especially lights and wipers. Also remember to give yourself a bit more time to reach your destination as it will take longer to get a vehicle ready for any destination with the need to clear windows and lights for frost, snow, and debris.
The Police Department would also like to thank Officer Justin Herman for his years of service to the Gooding Sheriff’s Office as a Detention Deputy and the City of Gooding as a Patrol Officer. Officer Herman will be returning to his home area in the Treasure Valley in the near future to be closer to family. With his departure, we are again in search of a patrol officer. We are always accepting applications for officers and are now in need of replacing two patrol officers and one detective. We are in the process of reviewing current applications and scheduling testing events for selection of our newest officers.
Note From Fire Chief Covey
A big welcome to Scott Williams!! Scott is the first Chaplain the Gooding Fire Department has ever had. Scott is the Pastor at the Gooding First Christian Church. He and his wonderful family moved from Ohio this year and has become a perfect fit for our community and family here at the department. With what our first responders see from call to call having Scott supporting our crew and their families on an emotional and spiritual level is priceless.
The Gooding Fire District would like to remind those that use a wood stove to clean the chimney on a regular basis. We would also like to take a moment and thank those who are slowing down and driving with caution on these winter roads. We have responded to a minimal amount of collisions this season. The Fire Department is now able to respond to any Search and Rescue situations in Gooding County Bennett Hill area. Personal snowmobiles are being used at this time. We will be looking for donations so we can purchase a toboggan to pull behind a snowmobile. We hope everyone has a safe and wonderful holiday season. Merry Christmas and God Bless, Chief Covey.
