A Note from Mrs. Patterson
Happy Friday!
Just a head's up....I will be out of the office Monday - Wednesday of next week. I won't have phone access, but I will be checking emails throughout the week. As always, your first point of contact should be your counselor if you need anything!
It's time to nominate a Teacher of the Month for February! Please use the link below and nominate one of your teachers! The deadline is February 15th.
If you'd like to volunteer for our morning news show, sign up below! We will start recording in a few weeks!
So this week is Valentine's Day. Some people go all out, while others think it's just a made up greeting card holiday. I'm somewhere in between, but since I have a severe craving for anything chocolate, I appreciate another day where the store aisles are full of it! I have done a little research on the holiday and here is what I learned. In 2020, Americans spent over $27 billion (yes, with a B) on Valentine's Day Gifts, including $2.4 billion on candy alone. According to Hallmark, more than 145 milllion Valentine's Day cards are exchanged, and that doesn't even include the ones swapped in elementary school classrooms. And here is a fun fact that I, as a dog mom, can get behind: in 2020, around 27 million American households gave Valentine's gifts to their dogs, while 17 million gave to their cats.
Why did I share all of that with you? In a way, I think it is neat to see that people spend so much money telling their family and friends that they love them. On the other hand, I am reminded that there are so many ways that we can express our love for someone that doesn't cost a thing. Did you know that February is Random Acts of Kindness month? A random act act of kindness is when you do something small to share kindness whenever you can. They are also simple. Need some suggestions? Here you go:
- Smile at a stranger in the grocery store
- Give someone an unexpected compliment
- If you see someone struggling to carry a load, offer to help.
- Hug someone who looks like they are having a bad day.
- Thank someone in your life who does a lot for you.
- Send cards or notes to people in a nursing home.
I encourage all of you this week to be randomly kind to people you come into contact with.
Have a wonderful weekend!
