Construction Project
Our new addition construction begins this school year! It will be noisy, it will be messy, at times, it will be disruptive. I ask all of us to be flexible and patient during this time, as I know it will be challenging for our students to overcome some of the distractions of such a large scale project.
As a reminder, we are adding a cluster of five classrooms to the front of our building, and will be renovating the media center to open it up to the hallway to make it more inviting and a “hub” for the school.
Here is what to expect:
Staging and set up will be starting now. Crews will begin bringing in equipment, signage, and setting up the fencing around the work zones.
NO PARKING IN NORTH LOT (bus loop). The construction crew will need to use that space for staging and to more easily access the work zone.
We will not have access to Door B at all this year, and will have limited access - EMERGENCIES and DRILLS only - to Door C.
Most of our patio space in the front will be fenced off for construction.
September 12th will be the first day of construction. Crews will spend September working on setting the foundation for the addition. Here is the proposed timeline for project:
Late September - outside wall comes down
Oct/Nov - walls go up
Late Jan - roof complete
Feb - windows in
March - interior work begins
May - start emptying out Media Center
June - August: Media Center renovation and final touches on new addition
Please talk in depth with your children about the construction, including:
Keeping their distance from the project - CRITICAL
At times, inside the building they will experience…
Noise
Messiness & blocked off areas (near Doors B and C)
Smells
Construction workers in the building: they will be easily identified by uniforms and hard hats
Possible power surges
Possible fire alarms when not a scheduled drill - I will have the crews alert me when they expect this to happen so we can prepare our students, but please know it may be an hour or less notice.
As the construction unfolds, there will undoubtedly be changes to the timeline which I will make sure to keep you informed with updates.
