PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Winter Break is around the corner, literally one day away. As we approach the end of 2021, it is with pride that we look back at what our students and staff have accomplished in a mere 3 months. Student learning continues to take center stage at Rock Creek. Across all grades and subject areas students and teachers collaborate in the learning process through innovative teaching practices, feedback and student input into their learning and assessment. On behalf of everyone at Rock Creek, I want to offer you our best wishes for the season and for a happy and healthy 2022. I hope that over the break everyone will make space to do what feels right for them to renew and recharge. I hope you have the opportunity to relax, reconnect with friends and family, and enjoy this time. We are excited to have students back in school refreshed and ready to learn on Monday, January 3rd.

~With gratitude and appreciation,

Tiffany

AUTHORIZATION FOR COVID TESTING IN SCHOOL

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) supports COVID-19 testing in public and private K-12 schools in Oregon for students and staff who display symptoms of COVID-19. The Beaverton School District has registered to have Abbott BinaxNOW rapid antigen testing available for students and staff who develop primary symptoms of COVID-19 at school. Primary symptoms of Covid-19 include:

  • New or different than usual shortness of breath

  • New or different than usual coughing

  • Fever of 100.4 or higher

  • New loss of taste or smell.

The Abbott BinaxNOW test will only be administered to students who have consent from their parent(s) or legal guardian on file. The student must be capable and willing to perform a nasal swab test independently. The parent(s) or guardian can decline testing and opt to test their child with a healthcare provider. If there is any doubt as to whether a specimen may be safely self-collected by an individual, they should be referred to their healthcare provider for COVID-19 testing. Positive test results will be shared with the Local Public Health Authority to assist in contact tracing.

If you would like your child to participate in this testing program, please complete and return the consent form to the school office. For further information on the the Abbot BinaxNOW rapid antigen test see the following link: FDA information on BinaxNOW test

If you wish to enroll your student. please click on the link below, go to Covid-19 testing consent forms and choose language. Please fill out the form and return it to the school office or email it to Jessica_Vogel@beaverton.k12.or.us

BIRTHDAY TREATS AND INVITATIONS

Birthday treats /prizes not to be brought to school.

Due to student allergies, equity and the number of birthdays we celebrate each month we do not allow birthday treats/prizes at school. We will however, be recognizing and celebrating birthdays on their special day in other special ways!

We also ask that private birthday party invitations or other type of private invitations NOT be delivered and distributed at school. This can lead to hurt feelings among students. Please make an effort to deliver these important messages in another manner.

Thank you for your cooperation. It is greatly appreciated.

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL

Winter Walk and Bike Preparation

Don’t let the cold weather keep you inside all season! Time spent being active outside can boost mood and mental health and keep kids focused and learning better. With some simple preparation, your children can still be active and stay safe and warm during our winter months.

  • Wear a raincoat or poncho and/or carry an umbrella.

  • Carry a plastic bag if you need to store wet gear.

  • Wear gloves and waterproof shoes. Carry (or store) extra shoes and socks to change into.

  • Find an under-cover area to park your
bike if possible. If not, bring a plastic bag to cover the seat.

  • Wear reflective gear and/or bright colors and use a light on your bicycle.

  • Only walk or bike in the rain if you are comfortable, as roads are slick, and visibility may

    be reduced.

Don’t let your guard down!

Our crossing guards work hard every day to help our children get to and from school safely. Whether on school property or in the community, if you see a crossing guard, please do what they are asking you to do. It takes all of us to keep the roads safe for everyone. Please be especially mindful in school zones, at intersections and crosswalks (marked and unmarked), near bike lanes and in neighborhoods. Thank you!
