Big Hollow Hubble
Big Hollow Elementary School~ January 12, 2018
Food for thought...
I thought this was a nice connection to our cultural sensitivity training and discussion on Monday. I will place the handouts Dr. La Prad referenced in your mailboxes.
“Empathy is really the opposite of spiritual meanness. It's the capacity to understand that every war is both won and lost. And that someone else's pain is as meaningful as your own.”
No Name Calling Week and Reading Week
School Mission and Vision
Some great items were brought to the table, and your BLT representative will be sharing these with you at your team meetings. Please continue to discuss the questions:
What kind of school do we hope to be? For students? For staff members? For the community?
How are we different from other schools? How should we "brand" our school?
What values do you think should be reflected in our vision and mission?
What do we need to do differently to uphold these values?
Kindness Challenge
Each day there will be a new kindness challenge shared over the announcements.
If a student is "caught" performing that act of kindness they will get a red starbuck. If they collect 5, their picture will be taken and added to a Kindness Wall. When a student collects 5 they will show their teacher (students can keep the starbucks in their collection) and the teacher will add their name to a google doc that Peggy will use to pull kids to take their picture.
For every additional 5 red starbucks that are collected students will earn a sticker to add to their picture on the kindness wall. Teachers will be provided with stickers to use for this.
Another PBIS Bus Bash!
Sit down facing forward
Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself
Donna will pass out a monthly calendar for bus drivers to keep track when all the students on the bus are showing self-control. They will be able to earn a point in the am and in the pm. We will encourage the calendar be posted on the bus, along with the expectations. The winning bus will receive a bus bash and this date TBA. Please let me know if you guys have any questions, concerns or feedback from the first bus bash from a primary perspective. This time our plan is to ensure students are back in the classrooms by 8:50am. We are going to also encourage teachers to review bus expectations, prior to dismissal. Thanks!!
Winter Testing!!!
- AIMS and MAP testing window is January 10-29

Thank you to everyone who has helped with AIMS testing. Please make sure you are following the AIMS web administration script provided in each binder when testing to ensure fidelity.

5 Essentials Survey- Please make sure to use Google Chrome, NOT Internet Explorer.
This link was sent out by the University of Chicago.
https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/login/
If this still does not work, you can take the survey provisionally. This survey is limited to teachers.
Teachers log in using their login and passcode. This information is emailed to each teacher at the beginning of the survey administration window.
I can't find my passcode:
Teachers who lose their passcode can access them by clicking on the "Forgot your passcode? Click here" link on the login page, just underneath the Passcode box. You will be taken to the "lost passcode" page. After you enter your email address, you should receive an email with the passcode information. Each time a teacher requests a new passcode, the program will generate a new passcode. Old passcodes won't work once a new one is generated.
Upcoming curriculum meetings with Barb..
Elementary Building - February 6, March 6, April 17
We will be mixing up the order of grade levels to avoid having the same teachers miss their preps. Thanks so much for your understanding and flexibility as we carve out time for these important meetings!
