Please complete EVERY morning before sending your child to school:
We completed our first 5 day week!
A package of forms and information went home last week. Some of these forms will need to be completed, signed and returned to school if you have not already.
Picture Day has been post-poned and will NOT be this Thursday, September 23rd. As soon as new dates are determined, we will let you know.
Please note that we stay outside before school and go out for recess in light rain. This lets us maintain a staggered morning entry that keeps class cohorts separated. It also allows students to get outside for fresh air and a mask break at recess. Please help ensure your child is dressed for the weather and has extra clothing.
We really appreciate our parents who are following important safety procedures:
- Where a face mask during arrival and dismissal.
- Do not park in the school parking lot from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.
- Use Messenger to report your child's absence.
- If end of day plans change during the day, please contact the office before 1:30 pm. This ensures we can pass along the message.
- If your child arrives late to school, please come to the main entrance and ring the bell.

AVPS School Advisory Council
It's that time of year! Parent Council elections for Executive Positions are coming up! The first Parent Council Meeting of the 2021-22 school year is on Tuesday, September 28th at 6:00 pm. The meeting will take place online via Microsoft Teams. If you are new to school council, please email AVPSParentCouncil@outlook.com to get the link.
Please use the button below to submit nominations. Nominations are anonymous and you can nominate yourself or someone else for a position. The person you nominate must be available to be present at the online meeting. You nomination does not count as a vote; you must be present to vote. Nominations are due by 4:00 pm on Monday, September 27th.
Below are a description of the responsibilities and duties of each executive position:
CHAIR - chief administrator of Parent Council - creates meeting agendas, liaisons between parents, school, administration and staff. Coordinates and supports volunteers, publishes newsletters, chairs Council meetings, keeps in touch with all coordinators.
VICE CHAIR - Duties of Chair could be split with Vice-Chair if deemed appropriate by Council. Vice Chair chairs any Council meeting that the Chair is unable to attend. The Vice Chair will also take meeting notes in the event that the Secretary is not available. If Co-Chairs are elected than the two parties will share the duties.
TREASURER - duties include handling all council money, produces financial statements/reports and presents these at monthly meetings.
SECRETARY - duties include attendance at Council meetings, recording minutes at monthly meetings and distribution to appropriate parties, maintains records as necessary.
INDIGENOUS FAMILY REPRESENTATIVE (who is an Indigenous parent/guardian/grandparent of an Indigenous student at that school)
And while we don't vote on the following position, MEMBERS AT LARGE play a very important role. Every parent/guardian is welcome to attend any and all Parent Council Meetings throughout the year!
MEMBERS AT LARGE - along with the executive, Parent Council relies on the parent community to come to meetings and have a say in issues that affect our students. We need parent representation to vote on how our fundraising efforts are allocated and to volunteer at various events and initiatives throughout the school year. Everyone is welcome!

Safe Arrival/Reporting Student Absences
Reporting Absences: There are three options to use to report a student absence:
- call the automated attendance phone line at 1-855-257-9349
- use the SchoolMessenger App on your phone (see below), select "Attendance" then "Report an Absence"
- use the SchoolMessenger website portal (see below).
If your child will be late, please mark them absent for the day. Office staff will change it to "late" when your child arrives to school.
SchoolMessenger App: Download the SchoolMessenger App to stay connected. Use your mobile device to download and install the free SchoolMessenger blue app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, the SchoolMessenger website portal, or from within the LDSB mobile app. *New families will be able to create their account after the first day of attendance.
The first time you use the app, you must select Sign Up to create your account. Please ensure you use the same email address you have on file with our school. If you do not use that same email address, you will not be able to create an account.
