Unit 2: Operations and Algebraic Thinking
Students will continue to strengthen their understanding of patterning, perimeter and area and solving multi-step word problems. The students will be taking their end of the unit assessment this week.
Students have been introduced to a new on-line program to help master their facts. The program is Xtramath. It can be accessed at xtramath.org. Students have their log-in information in their assignment notebook. The program allows students to practice their addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. The goal is to answer the problems in 3 seconds. It targets specific problems that the students are struggling with until mastery is achieved and gives them instant feedback. Please encourage your student to practice at home.

This Week in Reading
Unit 3: Fiction
In reading class this week, we continued to work with inferring the themes of some great fiction stories. We also used Zing, which is an Internet program with so many EBooks. This is part of our new reading curriculum, Schoolwide. The students have access to Zing at home using their computers, smart phones, or iPads. The students have their user names and passwords in their take home folders or taped into the front cover of their assignment books. These books are leveled and assigned to them using their STAR score. Many of the books are audio books. The students listen to the story as they follow along. Many of the books are AR books. The students are very familiar with this wonderful program.
Please be sure that your child reads every day at home for 35 minutes. You can view their progress towards their AR weekly and quarterly goal and see how they did on every AR test that they take by using the following link: http://goo.gl/FxJWkK . You can log in with your child's AR user name and password. They can help you with this. Thanks for all of your support!
