October Library Update
RRMS, October 2016
What a great month!
This month, we taught research, makerspace lessons, and lessons in classrooms, including advanced Google searching! We collaborated with Art, English, Science, and World Languages, among others. In our space we also hosted staff meetings, technology professional development, and the school-wide Mock Election. We love being the heart of the school and working with everyone on everything!
We also successfully launched our Battle of the Books club, with 6 teams and 42 students participating. These students will read a set list of 20 books and compete against each other as well as other schools in the region, representing RRMS well!
See below for some of the oh so many photos from this month.
Did You Know?
We have 150-200 students every morning between 7:10 and 7:30. Students are meeting with friends, finishing homework, studying, and printing assignments, as well as checking out and returning books.
Students use us quite a bit during the school day, including Rock Time! Here's how students used us in September and October between 7:30 and 2:15:
We're on Social Media!
New Books!
In October, we received our summer book order of over 200 new fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, and picture books! Thanks to our awesome parent volunteers, they are all stamped, stickered, and on displays for student checkout!
Makerspace Happenings...
French Class in the Makerspace!
Students in Mme Ura's class recently worked together in groups to present information about french-speaking, or Francophone, countries. While their presentation had to be digital, students were required to create a visual using the items in the makerspace to accompany their project. They turned out awesome, and are on display in the library's glass display case.
Dia de los Muertos Meets Makerspace!
To enhance their study of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, students in Sra. Carreno's class created their own skeletons/calaveras in the style of Jose Posada. Students used their name or the name of a relative who has passed away to create the torso, traced their hands, colored the skull, and created the overall skeleton. The creativity at RRMS is outstanding, and we are so proud to have hosted them!
Students Use the Makerspace!
During Rock Time and after school during Maker Time, students have made use of all kinds of things in our makerspace. Below are just a few of the ways!
