Empower All People to be Healthy, Lifelong Learners
Kia kaha - do your best * Kia māia - be courageous * Kia manawanui - have a heart
From our Principal
What a great time at the Puketapu Cross Country Fun Run & Walk (not Dawdle) last week! Thank you to all those who helped make the day such a great success and especially to Kim Sowman for her dedication to the event.
Puketapu School would like to congratulation Tupou Vaa'i for making the All Blacks squad. Tupou worked at Puketapu School in 2018 as a Learning Assistant. Tupou epitomises our school values of Kia Kaha - Do your best, Kia Māia - Be courageous and Kia Manawanui - Have a heart in everything he does. He is a hard trainer, humble, fearless competitor, dedicated teammate and he loves his family and friends.
We are looking forward to seeing you play for Taranaki this week, Tupou, and for the All Blacks in the near future.

Enrolments for 2021
Enrolment at our school is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available from the school office.
The board has determined that up to 5 places for New Entrants and up to 8 places for Year 7-8 students are likely to be available for out-of-zone students next year. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone.
Next year there will be three enrolment periods. The first enrolment period runs from Tuesday 2 February to Friday 16 April 2021.
For students seeking enrolment within the first enrolment period, the deadline for receipt of applications for out-of-zone places is Friday 25 September 2020.
Parents of students who live within the home zone and intend enrolling their child at any time during the next year should notify the school by Friday 25 September 2020 to assist the school to plan appropriately for next year.
Applications are made online at https://enrolments.linc-ed.com/apply/NZ/2223
If the number of out of zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. If a ballot for out-of-zone places is required, it will be held on Monday 12 October 2020. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.
Details relating to the next enrolment period will be published in 2021.

A message from the Keith whanau
Thanks to everyone who has supported us since Noah's sudden death a month ago. We are grateful for your aroha and awhi as we have wept, prayed and struggled together to come to grips with this new reality. A special thanks to the Kapa Haka Ropu who came to sing to our whanau, and to everyone who supported us as we gathered to celebrate the short time Noah had with us. We have been blown away with the kindness and care shown by so many. We deeply appreciate your continued prayers as we navigate this unimaginable space we have found ourselves in, and are grateful for our Puketapu whanau. Thank you all.
Arohanui, Doug, Melanie, Elijah, Petra and Gretta Keith

Kauri Revolution Tour
"Ricky Baker" from the movie “Hunt for the Wilder People” (his real name is Julian Dennison) and the tour talked about resilience = the ability to bounce back when hard things happen .
Julian talked about seeing our life as a movie and what do the different scenes look like and that even if there are some bad scenes in a movie it always gets better. Kids can always phone or text for free the number 1737 if they want to talk or get help .

Ko Puketapu Mātou
Each student in Tōtara 3 illustrated their own scene for each section of the story.
Students used various art techniques. For scene nine the students took these photos in their reading group. One student acted as Rakeiora, three others acted as starving members of Te Atiawa and the fifth member was the photographer. Scene eleven, each student acted as Rakeiora to personalize their story for them.
We put them all together into a class book that Matua Ale will hopefully get printed into an actual physical book! Thanks to Matua Glen Skipper and Anaru Wilkie for providing the Puketapu narratives.
Here are just a couple of pages from our Ko Puketapu Mātou narrative:
Maths at Playtime!
A great use of a warm sunny day. Students were finding fractions of 3 digit numbers and seeing relationships between numbers, using our scootering context of 360deg. These students are stars! working with Mrs P.
