Potter News
January 2020
A Message from Ms. Cimino
Mrs. Gallagher and I would like to wish all of our families a happy and healthy 2020! We are all ready to kick off the new year with many great activities moving forward for the month of January. Please remember to check our social media outlets and our new district app to keep up to date on our latest news.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new secretary Mrs. Tuzzo. Mrs. Tuzzo has been a long time employee at H & M Potter, working in the cafeteria prior to becoming secretary. We are happy to welcome her to the Main Office where she will be working alongside Mrs. Grimaldi.
As the possibility of inclement weather approaches it is important to make sure that your contact information in the Parent Portal is updated. All School Closings will be sent out via automated phone call (and text message if selected) using the number(s) provided in the Parent Portal. All closings and/or delays will also be posted on our district website at www.btboe.org and our Facebook page.
Additionally, please make sure that your child is sent to school with the appropriate cold weather gear such as a jacket, hat, gloves, etc. Students will go outside for recess/gym if temperatures permit. If you are in need of any of these items, please contact Mrs. Melanson or Mrs. Olsen.

LIONS CLUB VISION SCREENING JANUARY 2020
Children often do not realize they are not seeing as they should and may not complain or show signs of vision problems. If not detected and treated early, vision problems in children can lead to:
- Loss of vision
- Learning difficulties
- Delayed sensory, motor, cognitive or social-emotional development.
Each year approximately 30 Potter students are referred for additional follow up for potential eye disorders. Every year our Preschool, Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade students are screened.
HOW CAN A VISION SCREENING HELP MY CHILD?
- May help detect disorders in an early, treatable stage
- Provides parents, caregivers with information about eye care
- May result in a referral to an eye care professional or primary care provider.
PLEASE FOLLOW UP WITH AN EYE CARE PROFESSIONAL IF YOUR CHILD RECEIVES A REFERRAL. If you need assistance, please contact the nurse, Ext. 5005. If your child is prescribed glasses, please make sure they wear them everyday for school!
Did you know....1 out of 20 preschoolers has a vision problem?
JDRF Walk
Thank you to all who donated to help fund research and a cure for Juvenile or Type 1 diabetes! This year Potter raised almost $2000 bringing our total fundraising for the past 3 years to $10,000! Great job everyone! If you would like more information about Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes go to JDRF.org or Diabetes.org.
