Principal's Message
My thoughts go out to you if you have experienced power outages or other complications from the snow and ice storm. The fun and beauty of snow was totally undone by the addition of freezing rain and ice, as so often happens in the Pacific Northwest.
Celebrating Black History Month gives us all an opportunity to explore and better understand the history of Oregon. This link leads you to an essay titled, “Blacks in Oregon,” by Darrell Millner, former professor and now Professor Emeritus at Portland State University The essay draws a portrait of life for Blacks in Oregon from the late 1700s to present day. It is a complicated history, and one that continues to result in economic and educational barriers to many Blacks in Oregon. I hope you will find time to read this essay.

As we move through the remaining winter months and move into spring, I want to acknowledge ISB seniors. Throughout their time at ISB, they have been challenged by a rigorous curriculum and supported by teachers and parents to accomplish not only graduation but the completion of an IB Diploma. At no point before last year did anyone ever consider the possibility that students would be studying and learning at home in a distance learning model! So many aspects of senior year have been compromised by COVID-19 precautions. As we move through the spring, we hope COVID-19 precautions will allow senior celebrations of some type. We know that ISB will be graduating on June 14, 2021 (currently scheduled for 7:00 p.m.) but we do not yet know if we will be able to offer an in-person event. Stay tuned, and thank you for your patience as we continue to address student needs while maintaining mandatory safety guidelines.
Sincerely,
Janice Adams
No Classes Today and Wednesday is B Day This Week

Missed Curbside Pick Up?
You can still come to ISB to pick up your student's supplies and materials for second semester Monday through Friday from 8 am to 2 pm when school is in session. Almost ALL students have items to pick up.
When you arrive at ISB in your car, please use the bus drop off lane to pull up to the front of the school. Call the office at 503-356-3690 to let us know you are here. Hold a sign up in the front window with the first and last name of the ISB student(s) clearly visible - large print in bold letters really helps! Open your car's trunk and wait for staff to place your textbooks and materials in it. Staff will be wearing masks and gloves when they do this.
Walking or biking to school to pick up supplies and materials is discouraged at this time due to safety reasons.
Forecasting/Course Selection for Next Year
In keeping with the times, online Google Forms have replaced the paper forecasting worksheets from prior years. Links were provided to students and their parents/guardians last week and have been posted on our website under the "Academics" tab https://isb.beaverton.k12.or.us/academics/academic-program-guide/forecasting-worksheets.
- Students in grade 8 received this information on Monday and Tuesday, February 8th and 9th in their Science classes
- Students in grades 6, 7, 9, 10 and 11 received this information on Wednesday, February 10th during Advisory
NOTE: Students considering a transfer to a different school for next year will indicate this on their form and our counseling staff will work with families to facilitate any steps that are needed for those transitions.

Immunization Exclusion Day - Feb. 17, 2021
Immunizations are required by state law for children and students in attendance at public and private schools, preschools, child care facilities and Head Start programs in Oregon. Nearly every facility that provides care for a child outside the home requires immunizations or a medical or non-medical exemption to remain enrolled.
Children who are not up-to-date on their immunizations by February 17, 2021 will be excluded from school until their immunizations are updated. During Comprehensive Distance Learning, that means students will be put on a list and will not be allowed on campus for any reason until they’re up-to-date (i.e. no limited-in-person activities, no hybrid learning, no in-person learning, no athletics, no school events).
Keeping children up-to-date on immunizations will help schools transition safely and quickly to in-person learning when they’re able.
Students and families in the Beaverton School District may access immunizations at both the Beaverton School-Based Health Center and the Merlo School-Based Health Center in addition to their own health care providers.
