Learning Model Selection Closes Tomorrow
Dear District 103 Families,
Please make your Learning Model selection today for your child. As we plan for the second half of the school year, we are asking for your preference for in-person or remote learning beginning January 19, 2021 through the end of the school year. We are asking ALL parents to complete the form for each child in your family.
Please view the 6 minute video overview of the learning models.
Directions for selecting your learning model preference are located at the bottom of this letter. Please complete your selection by Wednesday, November 18, 2020 by 4:00 p.m.
It is our goal to maintain the current remote and in-person learning models consisting of 5 full synchronous days per week. We may hire additional staff, divide larger in-person pods into smaller groups and synchronously Zoom between in-person classrooms (a model Half Day School is currently using).
If 5 full days per week are not possible due to building capacity and social distance requirements, then we will implement the models described below. These models have been designed using feedback from students, parents and teachers.
We will provide ALL students with an equitable learning experience regardless of their choice of learning modality. Teacher and schedule changes may occur in any of the models.
After you have made your selection, please give us some time to work through the family selections before you reach out. While we know these potential changes may be concerning, we will work hard to keep the current models.
EC-5 MODELS
The EC through fifth-grade models described below will be the most consistent for young learners, allowing for daily attendance and for student materials to remain either at home or in the classroom depending on the subject. Having a consistent daily instruction schedule from their homeroom teacher in the early grades was felt to be most critical during this developmental stage.
Early Childhood
In-Person Model - No Changes
The in-person model will remain the same as it has been since the beginning of the year. That model is:
Students will attend school in the a.m. or p.m., 5 days a week
AM Session 8:30-10:30 a.m.
PM Session 12:00-2:00 p.m.
Instruction will focus on early numeracy, literacy, social emotional learning through play when in-person.
Differentiated support will be provided, as needed.
Related services will be scheduled in compliance with a student’s IEP goals.
Students will eat lunch at home. Parents will have the option of picking up lunch through the district’s remote lunch program.
Remote Model - No Changes
The remote model will remain the same as it has been since the beginning of the year. That model is:
Students will attend school remotely in the a.m. or p.m.
AM Session 9:00-11:00 a.m.
PM Session 12:00-2:00 p.m.
Instruction will be provided through choice board activities that will include daily early literacy, early numeracy, fine and gross motor and social emotional activities.
Differentiated small group support - synchronous, as needed.
PE and Music - synchronous instruction 15 minutes each week.
Related services will be scheduled in compliance with a student’s IEP goals.
Parents will have the option of picking up lunch through the district’s remote lunch program.
Grade K
In-Person Model - Possible changes in length of day
Students will attend school either in the a.m. or p.m., 5 days per week.
