“Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed.”
Matthew 8:8
Dear Parents and Staff
The words, above, from Matthew’s Gospel were spoken by a Centurion who asked Jesus to cure his servant. Not feeling worthy that Jesus should enter his house, the Centurion asked Jesus to do this from a distance, thus displaying a deep level of faith in Jesus’ healing power. This evening our Year Four children continue their journey towards receiving their First Eucharist, on the weekend of 15 & 16 June, as they make their Reconciliation which is the final step in their Eucharistic preparation. We, too, say very similar words to those above just prior to receiving Communion with our request being that our soul will be healed. In saying this we acknowledge our unworthiness to receive Jesus, however, in His infinite compassion and love for us he truly does “enter under our roof” and provide us with the nourishment that sustains us on our spiritual journey. We wish all of our children and their families a beautifully peaceful experience this evening and I ask everyone in our community to keep them all in our prayers.
PYJAMA DAY
There are only a few more sleeps before one of our favourite days of the school year, PJ day. Whilst this is a really exciting day, it is important that we remember why we get the opportunity to wear our pyjamas to school. Throughout Australia and even within our local area, there are many adults and children who are not as privileged as us, who don’t have a safe warm place to sleep each night. As the weather is quickly becoming colder their plight is even more critical. Pyjama Day at Notre Dame has two purposes: one is to raise money to support the Society of St Vincent de Paul so that they may help those in need; the other is to raise awareness that there are people in this situation and that we should all be looking for ways that we can support them, not only on this one day, but throughout the year. We may never be truly aware of what has led to a person being in a homeless state and we should certainly never presume to judge. We can, however, through small acts of kindness, help to make our world and community a place that welcomes and accepts all.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Sometime during last weekend a large branch dropped from one of our eucalypt trees near the parish carpark. It was still in the school grounds on Tuesday but, through the generosity of Sue McKinley (Education Assistant) and her husband Graeme, the huge branch was cut up and disposed of straight after school. Thank you so much, Sue and Graeme, for coming to our rescue and ensuring we have a safe environment at our school.

YEAR 3 CLASS NEWS
Literacy
We started off this term revising our learning of narrative and persuasive text structure and features. This was to prepare us for NAPLAN.
After saying goodbye to NAPLAN we started to research countries that neighbour Australia. We arranged our research in a sequence using a story board and now we are in the beginning stages of using our storyboards to write our speeches.
Maths
Maths was off to an exciting start this term with group rotations being used to support our learning. We have been learning all about capacity, kilograms and grams and have just finished revising multiplication. During our group rotation we are able to learn via Mathletics or Studyladder, playing games with our friends and having small group learning time with our teacher.
NAPLAN
In Week 3 and 4 we undertook the NAPLAN Assessments in Writing, Reading, Language conventions and Mathematics. We all tried really hard to do our best and showed a fantastic growth mindset throughout the two weeks. Thank you to our families for their support prior to and during this time. When NAPLAN finished, we decided to celebrate how hard we have worked by having a class party.
Excursion to Perth Hill’s Discovery Centre
On Monday 27th of May, both Year 3 Classes traveled by bus to Perth Hill’s Discovery Centre in Mundaring. We took part in the Moodjitch Binar Excursion where we did things like listening to Aboriginal Dreamtime Stories, had our faces painted and made jewellery out of natural materials. We were even lucky enough to learn about the tools and weapons Aboriginal people used to hunt and gather their food.
This excursion was organised so that we could learn about Aboriginal Culture in a hands-on way.
