## Community Helpers Week

Community Helpers Week will take place next week. We'd love to have parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents come in to share what they do for a career! There are still many time slots open, so contact me if you would like to come in!

## Valentine's Day Party Pictures

On Wednesday, March 2nd, our school will be having a read-a-thon in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday! Please contact me if you would like to participate and we can work out a time!

We reviewed the th, sh, and ch blends this week. Many students keep getting confused between these three. We practiced chunking words as a whole class and many kids applied it to our reading groups when trying to read the text.

Today, we went ahead and read The Biggest Valentine Ever. It's all about two mice named Desmond and Clayton that started working on a Valentine together and had an argument about it. They tried to make a Valentine on their own, but decided that working together was better.

The kids decided that they wanted to try to create their own "Biggest Valentine Ever". The girls designed their own and the boys created their own! We had some very creative ideas amongst the groups. It also led to some disagreements, but they worked it out just like Desmond and Clayton in the story.

## Math

The kids continued to rock at subtraction! They can easily identify if the story problem is an addition or subtraction problem.

We will be taking our subtraction assessment next week. We will begin to learn about composing and decomposing numbers 11-19.

## Dental Health

The kids learned about the proper sequence for brushing their teeth on Monday. They glued down the correct order to reinforce it!

On Tuesday, the kids learned that certain things we drink can affect our teeth. They predicted what color water, milk, soda, and juice would turn the egg (representing our teeth). They were able to observe what color each egg turned and they were quite surprised by the soda and juice!

We talked about health/non-healthy foods that we eat in our everyday life. I reminded them that it's okay to have a little of the non-healthy food as long as they remember to brush their teeth twice a day!

Today, Mrs. Dryer - a dental hygienist - came in to talk to the classes. She talked about plaque and how bad it is for our teeth! She demonstrated how we should wash our hands to prevent germs and how to correctly brush teeth!

She gave us a goody bag to hand out - they will go home next week. (They're bringing a lot home today already!)
