2nd Grade
Here's What we are learning
ELA
The student will be able to identify and describe connections between seeds, plants, flowers, and fruits. The student will be also be able to explain the process of pollination with insects [bees, insects, and birds to flowers and plants]. The students will take on the process of completing scientific drawings of plants and be able to label its parts. This process will help students be able to connect pollination with the life cycle of plants.
On our flexible days we will focus on nonfiction text features and practice diving deep into nonfiction text. We will be able to pick out main idea and explain how the text features help us understand what we are reading.

Social Science
The student will describe why United States citizens celebrate major holidays, including Martin Luther King, Jr., Day; George Washington Day (Presidents’ Day); Memorial Day;Independence Day (Fourth of July); Labor Day; Columbus Day; Veterans Day; and Thanksgiving Day.
The student will describe how the contributions of selected individuals changed the lives of Americans, with emphasis on: Christopher Columbus; Benjamin Franklin; Abraham Lincoln; George Washington Carver; Helen Keller; Thurgood Marshall; Rosa Parks; Jackie Robinson; Cesar Chavez; and Martin Luther King, Jr.
