The Main Things
An MSD Staff Communication that Cuts out the Clutter!
October 11th, 2021
Flu Season Exclusion Guidance, Pfizer Boosters and Twitter are this week's Main Things.
Main Thing 1: Flu Season Exclusion Guidance
Flu season is here and unfortunately that means more students with symptoms at school. If a student has primary COVID-19 symptoms (new, persistent cough, temperature of 100.4 or higher, chills, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or smell), they must stay home from school for ten days, unless they test negative for COVID-19. All schools have test kits on site to test symptomatic students who have parent/guardian permission on file. If a student is sick, but does not have primary symptoms, we follow our normal exclusion guidance (see page 12 of this document from OHA).
Main Thing 2: Pfizer Boosters
Educators are now eligible for the Pfizer booster shot. If you are interested in scheduling an appointment, dial 211 for where/how to schedule. If you received the Moderna or Johnson and Johnson vaccine, there is no booster yet.
Main Thing 3: Twitter
In the Medford School District, we believe ALL are Learning and Learning is for ALL. To develop our learning and help build our leadership pipeline, we are jumping back on Twitter! Thanks to Student Engagement & PD Specialist Tisha Richmond, we are going to use twitter to connect, learn, and grow. You can learn more about how Twitter bolsters learning by reading Tisha’s blog here. Bret is joining us! Find him on Twitter at @BretChampionMSD and remember to use the hashtag: #MSDLearns!
Other Things:
Hispanic Heritage Month
Each year, American’s observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th to October 15th. We got to celebrate this year by having students embrace their history and background through reading stories, art and food. Our Dual Language classrooms highlighted Hispanic leaders and important role models in history. Thank you to our schools for celebrating their students and the culture/contributions they bring to the classroom community.
