Beacon High School Senior News
Class of 2020
Dear Senior Family,
This pandemic has forced us to make adjustments not only to the school year but also activities for the class of 2020. As we consider the options for graduation and senior activities we focused on factors such as the health and safety of our students and community.
We are trying our best to be thoughtful and responsible. Through careful preparation, the district has planned the following activities to commemorate the achievements of our seniors. These include: Cap & Gown distribution, a personalized experience of walking across the graduation stage, and a virtual graduation video which will premiere at the Hyde Park Drive-In Theatre. A professional photographer, Dawn Sela Photography, Inc., will take a graduation picture of your senior. She will also provide you with a gift of a personalized lawn sign from community members. Please take the time to read this long letter carefully as it contains important information outlining the commencement schedule for seniors including senior events. All information will also be posted on our District website.
Commencement Schedule & Activities For Seniors
Graduation Distribution:
Senior Scholarship Night:
The announcement of the scholarship winners will be posted on our District website by June 15th. Seniors were awarded a scholarship because of their personal qualities and academic abilities stood above all applicants. Please take the time to write a thank you note to your scholarship donors. We look forward to celebrating the Class of 2020!
Graduation Celebratory Walk:
We will assign shifts to videotape the graduates walking the stage on our athletic turf field, taking their professional photo, pre-recording speeches, and compiling the footage to premiere at the Drive-In graduation. Our hope is to have every student walk across the stage filmed on our Athletic Field during that time (unless weather forces us to prolong the process). We are scheduling our families using the link below to indicate date and time slot preferences.

Graduation Pictures:
All seniors will have a professional photo taken with a diploma cover as they walk across the stage at Beacon High School Athletic Field. Please use the following link to pre-purchase your photo package. Due to NYS and CDC guidelines on social distancing we are allowing a limited amount of time for each family to take photos. Please be respectful of the schedule and arrive 15 minutes early to be prepared for your students' walk.
Graduation Virtual Video Premiere:
We have scheduled a virtual graduation for June 24th. We know that this is certainly not ideal, however, we need to be prepared to celebrate our senior class in a virtual format. The company Jostens has provided a platform that will arrange for us to create a thoughtful video to celebrate our seniors.
Beacon High School has contracted with the Hyde Park Drive-In theater to broadcast its commencement exercises on Wednesday, June 24th. The Class of 2020 student representatives agree that this is the best option that adheres to NYS and CDC guidelines.
The information noted below will provide an overview for graduates and their families of what they can expect for the event. We will pre-record the various aspects of graduation and then premier the movie at the Hyde Park Drive-In theatre. Due to the limited capacity of one vehicle per graduating student, the tech department will also show the virtual graduation commencement on the district website. You will also be receiving an invitation via email for the event.
