In elementary education, teaching children how to read and then becoming independent lifelong readers is essential for school success. At Barron Park, we are committed to providing strong instruction, access to books, and lots of time celebrating reading progress. Barron Park Educators have been exceptional shifting gears teaching Reading in addition to other curricular areas through the distance learning model. This is a direct result of their dedication to the profession, belief that all children can and will succeed, and their enjoyment of being engaged with high quality professional development.
Providing all Barron Park students access to books and instructional materials continues to be very important to support learning while at home. We are pleased to share that over 85% of families picked up classroom materials for their child(ren) this past Friday. Picking up these materials and making sure they are accessible to students only further assists with instruction for the following week of school. I had the opportunity to join a number of classrooms and it was nice to see students utilizing materials provided to them.
Special thanks to our dedicated educators and instructional aide staff for their time putting these important materials together. We thank our families too for your responsiveness and support as we work through this period of time together.

The BUZZ From The Library
Mr. Tooley is keeping busy Zooming with students for read-alouds and library-related instruction. The lastest topic was How to Be a Good Zoomer. Digital citizenship lessons, more important than ever, are also on the way. Before those, though, he will work with students on using the online catalog to request Barron Park library books for pick up at school, similar to the public library's curbside check out program. Details are still being worked out, but we should be starting later this month.
Also coming soon: the school district funded a shared ebook collection for the elementary schools. Similar to Overdrive at the public library, MackinVIA is a kid-friendly ebook and digital audiobook platform that students can access on various devices. The final technical steps are underway to have this available to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students soon. The elementary library team will soon add ebooks for younger students, and Mr. Tooley also plans to acquire some materials that will be available only to Barron Park students.
