Jackson: ZERO
Potential to be a hero, but turned out as a zero.
The Trail of Tears
The Cherokee Indians were a small group of Native Americans trying there best to fit into the US. They worked to create a community. Then the greedy American settlers came and said they need more land to grow cotton. The settlers of Georgia wanted the Cherokee out of the way. Andrew Jackson, being a "common man" was with the settlers. The US Government forced all Native Americans to go west and settle in the less desirable land to the west. They had no choice but to pack up their things and move west. The US promised the Natives that they would have care and doctors along with them until they learned how to do it themselves. The US did not keep that promise, causing many natives to die on the long journey.
Jackson's Killing of the National Bank
The National Bank was the one and only thing that actually stabilized our economy. Without it, everything economically will fall apart. Thanks to Jackson he killed the National Bank because in his opinion it was unconstitutional.
The "Spoils System"
The spoils system was a system that rewards supporters and political allies of winning candidates with government jobs weather or not they are qualified. This is almost the same as letting a 3 year old child be a major government employe. The problem with this is that it will cause many problems because people are doing a job that they don't even know how to do properly. Because many people wanted to have a good job and be important so they vote for whoever they have to so they can be rewarded. Pretty messed up.
Political Cartoon
This cartoon shows Jackson trying to be the "common man" by tearing down the Bank. He did not listen to congress and put everything on his own hands causing him to seem tyrannical.
The Nullification Crisis
The Nullification Crisis started with the Tariff of 1828 and the Tariff of 1832. These enforced imported goods from foreign Countries prices to come up. This enraged the South because being a agricultural economy, they relied heavily upon those imported goods and they didn't have the manufacturing to make it themselves. This problem was not going away causing South Carolina to threaten to secede from the nation. Obviously your doing something very wrong if on of your major states is threatening to withdraw from the Country.
