News from Sanborn School
April 9, 2021
A Note from Mrs. Johansen
I hope you are all doing well, staying safe and enjoying the spring weather- despite the rain!
We look forward to seeing those students who have chosen to return to In Person learning on Monday, April 12. This start date applies to those families who were previously Virtual and were approved to return to In Person learning. Those that have committed to Virtual Learning will continue as usual from home until the end of the school year. Please know that our staff continues to work hard to make sure our campus is clean and safe for your children. We have worked closely with CCSD15 Administration, our Health Services Coordinators, and our Facilities and Operations teams to make sure Sanborn School is following all safety protocols.
- Your child's teacher will provide a "Self Certify Card" on April 12. Please make sure your child has their "Self Certify Card" signed and dated by a parent each day. Lanyards are checked in the car loop, when students get off the bus, and at the arrival doors. If the lanyard is not signed, we will assess each student, have their temperature checked, and give them an entry sticker.
- Make sure your child is wearing a mask that covers the nose and mouth and send extra masks.
We hope you understand we need to follow our safety protocols on building visitors. Rest assured we will take excellent care of your children. Please don't hesitate to call if you have any concerns or questions. Below is all the information you need to know regarding what your child's day will look like on campus at Sanborn School. The Sanborn Staff looks forward to working with you and your children.
Thank you for another great week of learning and all your support!
Have a great weekend,
Erika Johansen
Bright Bytes Survey
Our school is partnering with BrightBytes, a data analytics organization built specifically for K-8 school districts, to provide insights into our new and changing learning environments with the goal of ensuring equitable learning support for all students.
Last year, your participation helped us form a more complete picture of how learning is taking place and has allowed us to create targeted initiatives to support our teachers and students. In order to better understand our progress over the past year and identify next steps for our initiatives, we are asking you to provide your perspective around classroom support and resources.
This year’s survey is designed to capture your perspective around your child’s classroom support and resources (e.g., access to technology, instructional support, and student social-emotional competencies). It doesn’t matter whether your student is learning-- in-person or virtually-- the survey is designed for any learning environment.
We are requesting that you take part in this important school survey. Your responses will remain anonymous to protect your privacy. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.
The last day to complete this survey is May 7, 2021. Please respond using the link below:
Your participation is extremely important to us. It will give us a comprehensive understanding of our students’ needs and areas for improvement at our school. As always, thank you for your ongoing support of Sanborn School.
Classroom Sectioning for 2021-2022
During the next few weeks, the staff and I will be involved in the process of student assignments for the 2021-2022 school year. According to the projected enrollment, the Sanborn grade level configuration will be as follows:
Kindergarten – finalized in August
2 sections of second and third grade
3 sections each of first, fourth, fifth and sixth grade
We will continue to have full day Bilingual Kindergarten and Bilingual first, second, third, and fourth grade classrooms.
Spring is the time we begin to make plans for next year. Many professional hours of preparation are spent to make sure the most appropriate class placements are provided for each child. Sanborn has an extensive process for placing students that ensures each class includes a balanced grouping of students that creates an atmosphere where all students can learn. All of our teachers and specialists take an active part in this process to consider all essential factors of education including the learning and social needs of each child.
We always welcome your input including feedback on your child’s ideal learning environment and will accept recommendations on a setting that will maximize his or her learning needs.
In order to ensure that this process emphasizes each child as well as the class as a whole, we will not be accepting parent requests for specific teachers or being placed with specific friends. Such requests cannot be considered, as this opportunity cannot be available to all children. Letters requesting a specific teacher (or gender) will be returned. Please submit all letters to the Sanborn Office or to Mrs. Johansen at johansee@ccsd15.net by Friday, April 23rd.
Building administration has the final decision on classroom placement, so please refrain from making recommendations to staff members. You can contact me if you would like to discuss your child’s individual learning styles and needs and your input will be taken into consideration.
We are asking that you trust our staff and the process that we utilize to place your students—all of our decisions will be made with the best interest of all of the children at Sanborn.

Online Student Registration
Online student registration for the 2021-22 school year is now open. If you have not already started this process for your student(s), please visit our registration page to start this process.
Registration is the first step in getting ready for the up-coming school year. After you register your child online you need to:
Pay student fees. Our student fee webpage outlines the District’s student fee structure and the three ways fees can be paid.
If you have a student that is starting Kindergarten, entering fourth grade, or entering 7th grade, you are required to prove residency in District 15. Our residency webpage outlines the documents you will need to provide to prove residency. All D15 schools’ front offices will be open until 7pm on June 8 and 10 for anyone needing assistance to register their child online or prove residency.
All three steps of the enrollment process must be completed prior to the start of the school year. Families that do not register and, when required, prove residency will not receive information about their school’s school open house event, teacher assignment, class schedule, or bus route until registration is complete.
