Conference Sign Up
If you haven't had a chance to fill out the conference sign up form yet, please visit the form today. This way I can schedule a conference time that works best for you. I need this information by this Friday. Thank you!
Shadow Lake Bog
Don't forget we will be visiting the bog on Thursday. Please help your child be prepared for the wet weather with coats and rain boots if possible. You could also send dry socks and shoes to change into when we get back. We will eat our lunches in the classroom and then leave at noon and arrive back at the school around 2:00.
Harvest Party!
For our classroom Harvest party we celebrate one of our main crops in Washington-the apple! We will be making applesauce on the morning of the 30th. We will then enjoy our applesauce after lunch on the 31st. During that time we will also enjoy writing some silly sentences about apples.
Math
Today we started learning the methods for 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication. Many of the students were able to quickly transfer their learning from the previous strategies. For others the work was a little slower. We take a look at all of the methods/algorithms and I will help students find the method that works best for them. By the end of unit 2 they will have had LOTS of practice multiplying numbers.
Another area of continued focus is to clearly explaining our thinking both on paper and as we talk about how we are solving a problem. One way student practice this is through the strategy of Rally Coach. Have them tell you about this strategy.
English/Language Arts
We have entered one of the assessment zones of our school year. Today we did a small portion of a district reading assessment. Over the next couple of weeks we will slowly make our way through a few reading and writing assessments. These are tools to help me plan learning for your child. They also help me to talk with you at conferences about how your child is doing as a fourth grader. I am proud of how hard they are working.
Future Ready Skills
Check out the chart that we have been working on to help build our understanding of a complex thinker.
