Friday Notes

Second August Edition

Health and Safety

On August 10, the Agency of Education, in collaboration with the Vermont Department of Health issued a memo for all schools with updated guidance relative to COVID-19. With testing no longer a first-line strategy for COVID-19 prevention in Vermont, schools have been advised to revisit pre-COVID-19 school sickness policies; ours can be found in our Parent/Student Handbook.

Here's what you need to know:

  • If a student is presenting with mild symptoms, the decision to test (with parent permission) or return to class will be made by our school nurse, based upon her clinical decision-making. Mild symptoms include runny nose or nasal congestion, minimal cough, and absence of fever in an individual with no current or recent household exposure to COVID-19.

  • If a student is not well enough to learn or participate, regardless of whether he or she is tested for COVID-19, he or she will be sent home from school. A student who is sent home due to illness may be required to wear a mask while awaiting pick-up. The student may return to school if symptoms have improved and the student meets school criteria for return. COVID-19 testing will not be required for symptomatic students to return to school.

  • If a student has confirmed COVID-19, he or she will follow the Vermont Department of Health isolation guidance.

Construction Update

As we are sure you've seen, the construction project is moving right along! We anticipate a mid-October completion, which of course will impact our ability to use the multi-purpose room space in the K-8 portion of our building between now and then. This will impact mornings, PE classes, morning assemblies, Mass, and meals.

Here's what you need to know:

  • On the first day of school for your student, please feel free to accompany your student to his/her homeroom after we take your first day of school family picture.
  • After the first day of school, K-8 students (parents/caregivers are welcome to enter, too) will enter through the K-8 main entrance. If students arrive before 7:50, they will proceed down to the ASP room, located in the PK wing of the school. If students arrive after 7:50, they will proceed directly to their homerooms. REMINDER: PK students enter through the PK wing, beginning at 7:45 am and report directly to their homerooms.
  • Meals (breakfast and lunch) will be delivered to classrooms and students will eat in classrooms, just like last year.
  • PE classes will take place outdoors or in the ASP space in the PK wing of the school.
  • We will hold Mass outdoors on Wednesdays and will stream to classrooms on inclement weather days.
  • We will hold morning assemblies outdoors and will stream to classrooms on inclement weather days.

We will continue to provide construction updates; we are so excited for the big reveal!
