Class of 2020 Favorites
As we continue to celebrate our Senior Class of 2020, we are happy to announce our class of 2020 favorites, as voted on by their peers. Congratulations to our senior class favorites. These kids have been great students, great people and they are the future of this great country of ours. (Click here to view)
Congratulations, Mr. Pierce!
Hays High School is proud and honored that our fearless leader, David Pierce, earned the 2019-2020 Hays CISD Principal of the Year Award.
Under Mr. Pierce’s leadership, Hays HS has experienced record high achievement scores and extracurricular achievements. He holds high expectations for students and hand picks the best teachers and support staff to help bring his vision to life. He understands the importance of learning AND connection. Mr. Pierce walks the halls during every passing period and can be seen at every daily lunch talking to students and trying to expand their knowledge of classic rock bands.
Hays High School runs in Mr. Pierce’s blood. He remembers past students, their siblings' names, and their personality characteristics. He never forgets and holds a special place in his heart for his students. This is also evident when you look at the ceiling in his office. Every year, the seniors pull a “prank” on Mr. Pierce. One year it was filling his office with balloons and footballs, another was packing peanuts, and another was removing all his office furniture to create an art installation in the main hall. A ceiling tile in his office is dedicated to each of these pranks, and an item is attached to the tile as a reminder of each class.
David Pierce graduates students from Hays High School but they never leave his heart and mind. We are so proud of the impact he’s had on our school community and we look forward to the future. As Mr. Pierce states at the end of each day’s announcements, “Have a GREAT, GREAT Hays High School Day!" Congratulations, Mr. Pierce.
Save the Date
Class of 2020 diploma/cap & gown distribution will be May 26 at Hays HIgh School 8am-8pm.
We must strictly adhere to all safety protocols related to social distancing. We will have specific time slots assigned to avoid a potential gathering that could pose a safety risk. More info will follow, stay tuned.
Neighborhood Parades
I want to give you an update on “neighborhood parades”. As a school, we are unable to endorse or organize such events. Earlier we sent an interest form, but at this time we must abandon the idea. We must balance the health and safety of our students while honoring all city, county and state expectations regarding such events. I apologize to you, but know that we are focusing on other senior events that will make the remainder of the senior year memorable.
If individuals wish to organize neighborhood parades (which several subdivisions have already done), it is not considered a school-sponsored event and is allowable as long as proper permission is secured from your HOA.
If you have questions, please contact me at david.pierce@hayscisd.net, or if you have questions about the interest numbers (no names, just numbers) in your subdivision, email shelly.plumley@hayscisd.net.
Again, we cannot sponsor, organize or endorse a neighborhood parade.
