Clothing Construction Meetings

For Mission Valley Area 4-H Members

**DATES & TIMES UPDATED 4/24/16**

Hello!

Please read through the following information about the scheduled 4-H Clothing Construction meetings for the Mission Valley area 4-H programs.

A lot of the names on the roster were familiar to me, but not all, so if you don't know me, my name is Gina Bergin and I am the Family & Consumer Sciences teacher at Mission Valley. I have been sewing for over 20 years and it is absolutely one of my favorite hobbies. I'm excited to share that passion with 4-Hers!

All of our meetings will be held at Mission Valley High School in the Family & Consumer Sciences classroom. I have 11 sewing machines available for members to use.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at gbergin@mv330.org or call/text (620)947-1922. I look forward to working with you! --Gina Bergin

Meeting #1: Sewing Bootcamp

Date: Friday, May 20th

Time: Noon-4pm

At this first meeting, we will learn sewing basics including:

  • How to pick out and read a pattern
  • How to purchase fabric and supplies
  • How to read care instructions
  • Basics of the sewing machine

All members will also complete a small project (all materials will be provided).

Please RSVP by May 12th so I can be sure to have enough supplies ready.

Meeting #2: Skills Practice

Date: Saturday, June 11th

Time: 8am-12pm

Our second meeting will focus on specific sewing skills including:

  • buttons/buttonholes
  • hemming
  • finishing seams
  • zippers
  • top-stitching
  • pressing

All members will also complete a small project (all materials will be provided).

Please RSVP by June 3rd so I can be sure to have enough supplies ready.

Meeting #3: Project Workday

Date: TBD (Late June or Early July)

Time: 8am-4pm

Our final meeting will be a workday for fair projects. Members are asked to bring along their pattern, fabric, and any required notions needed for their chosen project. I will be available all day, so you can attend for as much or as little of the workday as you would like to. For this meeting, if you would prefer to bring in your own sewing machine, that would be fine. My classroom machines will still be available for use as well. Take advantage of this day to work on projects, so you have one less thing to worry about the week of the fair. :)

Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP so I can be sure to have enough food ready.

Clothing Buymanship meetings are TBD--watch your email closer to the end of the school year.
