Mission
Staff Spotlight-Aimee Sims
Meet Aimee Sims, one of our Sponsor Teachers. Aimee began her teaching career with ASD at Mt. Spurr Elementary teaching 2nd grade. She has worked at Family Partnership since 2004 as a sponsor teacher. She began homeschooling the first of four of her kids in 2006. Two of her boys have graduated from Family Partnership. They are now in the military. One is with Space Force and the other is in the Navy. Aimee is still in the throes of homeschooling. She has a daughter who is a junior and a son who is a sophomore with Family Partnership. Some of the highlights of being a part of FPCS have been working with students in small group language arts, social studies, enrichment classes, Battle of the Books coach, field trips with Alaska Junior Theater, Alaska Coastal Studies in Kasitna and China Poot Bay, and overnights at the Sea Life Center. She has loved getting to know so many FPCS families through these adventures. She loves her sponsor families! Homeschooling is Aimee's passion. She loves that she has been able to tailor her kids' education to grow her children's strengths and encourage positive growth in them while actively implementing solutions for her children's successes in areas of their weakness. She has found, with the help of her homeschool community, a real sense of comradery as we cheer each other on in this adventure of homeschool! Some of her favorite homeschooling podcasts are "Read Aloud Revival" with Sarah McKenzie, "Simple Homeschool", "10 Minutes to a Better Homeschool" with Pam Barnhill and the "Deeply Rooted Homeschool."
Aimee states, "It is humbling each year as I learn how to become a better homeschool mom. I am continuously learning how my children learn and how I can become a better teacher."
Student Spotlight - Berenger MarcAurele
Berenger MarcAurele (Ber) is a high school senior with FPCS and is planning to attend the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada to pursue study in kinesiology. He is a competitive figure skater who has competed locally as well as in many states and Canada. Most recently, by ranking 3rd in the Northwest Pacific Region, he went on to compete at the Pacific Coast Sectionals. He has competed not only in solo skating, but also In ice dance and pairs. In the past year, he began judging at local skate competitions as well. Ber has been coaching and volunteer coaching group lessons with the Alaska Association of Figure Skaters in their Learn to Skate program for 6 years. In addition to group lessons, Berenger is also a private figure skating coach (MarcAurele Figure Skating) who is certified both under the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA) and Ice Sports Industry (ISI). FPCS has made it possible for him to pursue his skating goals while also getting excellent education. Ber is in the process of becoming a vendor for FPCS for figure skating lessons.
