Folsom Weekly Update
November 6-15
Message from Dr. Mazzoni
Dear Folsom Staff Members,
We received the 2018-2019 Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Accountability Profile from the New Jersey Department of Education. Below are some highlights and areas in need of improvement:
Mathematics
- We did not meet the schoolwide annual target in mathematics in the area of academic achievement. Our annual target percentage was set at 43.2 percent and we scored 37.5 percent.
- Met the target for students with disabilities; 30.2 percent compared to the annual target of 20.8.
- In the area of academic progress, Student Growth Percentiles (SGP’s) are being met and exceeding in the subgroup: students with disabilities.
English Language Arts
- We met the schoolwide annual target in English Language Arts by 50.4 percent of students scoring proficient compared to the annual target of 47 percent.
- In the area of academic progress, Student Growth Percentiles (SGP’s) are being met in nearly all subgroups. The economically disadvantaged subgroup was the one area that the target was not met.
Chronic Absenteeism
- We met the schoolwide chronic absenteeism rate when compared to the New Jersey State average. Our absenteeism rate was 1.5 percent compared to the state average of 9 percent.
I am confident that the hard work and passion of our staff will continue to reap the academic successes in due time. For instance, the work in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) from unpacking the standards, developing activities and assessments, to the efforts of strengthening tier II and tier III supports will set us apart from other schools. Let’s keep pushing and inspiring students to be the best they can be each and every day!
Go Falcons!

Curriculum
Benchmark Assessments:
District Benchmark data has been updated in the Google Drive. Reasoning behind benchmark testing:
A benchmark test is a point of reference that allows the teacher to see where each of the students are at individually. A teacher can also use benchmark data to assess the class as a whole. Benchmark testing is conducted throughout a school year to assess student growth and modify instruction during tiered instruction.
