California School Parent Survey
Poway Unified School District is conducting a survey of parents as part of our school and district continuous improvement process. Additionally, the results are used to meet the requirements of the state mandated Local Control Accountability Plan(LCAP). We value parent input greatly and appreciate your participation in the short survey.
This survey is specific to our school and will be used for site and district input. The Parent survey is aligned with the state mandated California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) taken by the 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th grade students and the PUSD Staff Survey also to be conducted this month.
PUSD will use these student, staff and parent surveys to gain a better understanding of the parents’ view of our school and how we can best support our students and PUSD families. The document below provides some additional information.
We know there have been a lot of surveys this year, but please help us by taking this California survey no later than June 4, 2021. Click here .
UPDATED! 8th Grade Promotion and 8th Grade Fun Day
This will be a traditional format with an audience and students crossing the stage to receive their certificate. We will be on the field and the event is for every 8th grader (both in-person and virtual learners).
- Begins at 9:00 AM on June 18th. Finished by 10:30 AM.
- Students are expected to be at school by 8:30 to report to their homeroom class where they will wait before coming to the field. Parents will report directly to the field. Gates will open at 8:00 AM.
- Recommended attire for students - this is an event to celebrate the transition to high school. Students should dress suitably for the event and the weather. Please keep in mind that it is morning and on the field, so will be chilly. Only flat shoes or very low heels are recommended as students will cross grass and walk up and down the stage steps.
Thursday, June 17 is an 8th grade fun day from 8:30-2:05 on campus for all 8th graders. The time on campus will include a practice for promotion, so we encourage the students to attend. We have some great activities like kickball, bingo, and crafts. Students will also have opportunity to sign yearbooks.
NEW! We Need a Volunteer Videographer!
We would like to video the 8th grade promotion event on June 18 at 9:00 AM, but have been unable to secure a professional videographer. We need a volunteer who has the equipment that can plug directly into our sound board to capture the microphone sound since it is an outdoor ceremony. Simple, single camera focused on the stage. No editing needed. Contact dpanganiban@powayusd.com

NEW! SWE Next Club Finalists
This 2020-21 academic year at Mesa Verde marks the first year that San Diego has a Society of Women in Engineering Next club at the middle school level. SWE is a well-known engineering club for girls and women mainly at the college and professional levels. The club encourages young girls to learn about the field of engineering through a variety of ways such as having guest speakers, hosting challenges, learning about engineering companies and jobs, and just having a group of similar-minded girls to support each other.
This year MVMS’s SWE Next club has guest speakers Dr. Natasha Mallette, an engineering professor from Oregon State University and DRS Daylight Solutions, a local laser company. The club also hosted a chemical baking challenge with rock candy and learned about the Engineer Process. This spring, the club joined the University of San Diego’s Teen Innovation Challenge. This challenge lasted six months, included 100+ educators, 2800+ students, 11 countries, and 19 U.S. states. The girls formed six teams to create a project that addressed one of the United Nations' 17 global sustainable development goals. Four teams submitted their video pitches into the challenge and three teams were finalists. Please congratulate our hard-working teams!
Finalists Groups:
- Biking Towards Change (Chloe Sun, Chloe Chen, Nicole Nguyen, Elizabeth Weng, and Allison Prevost-Rinehart)
- The Education Link (Eleyn Xiong and Tanya Mandyam)
- Teenage Climate Action Alliance (T-CAA) (Zoey Lestyk, Chloe Lestyk, Zoe Williams, and Milena Pistek)
REMINDER: In-Person PE Classes and Attire
Please keep an eye on which days your child has PE and ensure they are dressed for PE participation. Thank you!
