Cougar Hockey
Mankato East High School
Welcome to the 2017-2018 Season
We worked hard this summer, both on and off the ice. No matter the crazy suggestion for off ice conditioning the girls went along with it. (Only a few complaints)! But more importantly in the several practices we had there was improvement. The girls listened to why we were doing certain drills and there was crossover into the 4 on 4 games from practices.
I hope to send a newsletter out like this one each week. I'd like to highlight our players and provide thoughts about the week in review and upcoming. It's a great place to put dates and reminders as well. If there's ever an announcement that you'd like put in the newsletter just shoot me an email.
Shooting PUCKS??
Girls are hopefully getting closer to the 2,000 puck goal set for them mid JULY!!! This is an individual way we can each get better and overall make our team better.
5k Oct. 21
Mark your calendars....
Fundraising info
Friends, family, coworkers, teachers... everyone loves pizza, right?!?! The girls will get these on Oct. 16th and the money or unsold cards will be due back on Nov. 3rd.
The second fundraiser is taking place Oct. 25th at Pizza Ranch. Players will be bussing tables and hopefully their families and friends will come and eat!! We will have promotional information for this in the next week or so. We need 5-6 girls per shift, for a start and end shift, two hours in length. Girls should wear MEHS t-shirt and closed toed shoes. Let me or Cindy Steinberg know if you have questions or could potentially help out. We do need one adult per shift, and more concrete times will be shared with the girls.
We have more in the works for the season and it's always amazing to see parent volunteers promoting service to their athletes! We each have different ways to contribute, please consider how best to showcase yours!

I've been in Mankato my entire life. Started skating when I was 5 and figure skated for a few years before joining hockey as a 10 year old. I played with MAHA until my 7th grade year where I then moved up to play for East. While playing at East I played defense and forward, depending on the year and current team needs. I also play soccer and ran track while in high school. When I graduated I moved to North Dakota to play soccer and get my Bachelors in Exercise Science.
As of 1 year ago, I have been back in Mankato working at East as a Para while working on my Master's of Clinical Exercise Physiology. I coached East girls soccer last fall, followed by U12 girls hockey in the winter, and East girls track in the spring. I also had the opportunity to coach Special Olympics basketball, power lifting, and track this past spring/summer. Since being back in Mankato, I have continued my hockey career by joining a men's league and playing with my Dad.
This fall I am interning in Cincinnati, OH and coaching an 8 year old girls soccer team. I will be back right after the season has begun, and am very excited to be apart of this team. I look forward to a great season!
Please welcome Hannah Vogel
I started playing hockey around 9 years old in Bloomington, MN. After two years of skating out with the U10 team trying offense and defense, my coach (dad) finally let me play goalie for a game in U12s. Before I knew it, I was goaltending every game and got pulled up to play with the high school team when I was 13. After playing 8th-10th grade as the full time JV and the backup (and occasional starter) Varsity goalie with Bloomington Jefferson Girls Hockey, I split my time on Varsity with another goalie my 11th grade year and started full time as Captain when I reached my Senior year.
I decided to “hang up my skates” after senior year of high school while I attended college at Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, MN and I now work in IT at South Central College. I still live in St. Peter with my wife and our two golden retrievers, Penny and Georgia, cat, Desmond, and bunny, Leroy. We are very loyal MN Wild super fans - my favorite player ever and inspiration for becoming a goalie is Manny Fernandez although my favorite current player is still to be determined (Zucker, Granlund, Coyle, Dubnyk..)!
I’m beyond excited to be coaching with the Mankato East Girls Hockey team this year and can’t wait for the season to begin!
